The fact is that obesity is disproportionately linked to poverty, and not nearly all low-income people get a level of government assistance that allow them to eat balanced diets. Low-income people can get enough calories to survive, but they can't usually be picky and eat balanced diets, so they end up eating lots of cheap processed crap - i.e., a lot of calories from fat. This has been documented to death for years now - do a quick search.

In places where the poor are really poor, e.g. Haiti, parts of Africa, you don't see a lot of obesity. To maintain a weight well into the obestiy column on the BMI, you have to consume a good deal of food.

Does it matter? Well, someone was trying to skew the data so I just wanted to set the record straight. Do you have a problem with this?

Maybe you can read the thread so you can catch up?

Easy.. Lack of education corresponds with both overeating on crap food and voting against your self interests.

They'd be fat too if they were lazy and McDonald's was the cheapest food on the block.

If the data on obesity by state is correct, the Democrats could build a huge electoral advantage by rationing health care to the obese. If you can't beat 'em, kill em?

One problem with your theory. Or was it a suggestion?

We have already determined that a great percentage of the obese in the red states are black voters who are democrats. Good try though.

Southern states might be more obese because they are in the Bible Belt. Since they refrain from drinking, in some cases smoking, and forget about illegal drugs, the only vice they have left is eating. They tend to vote Republican on social issues.

It was neither a theory or a suggestion. It is a nightmare that was passed by both houses of congress and signed by the president. Your point is comforting to me, however.
