AUSTIN, Texas – Everyone from lobbyists to lawyers and journalists is rushing to get permits to carry guns inside the Texas Capitol, where legislators already often tote pistols in boots and purses or stow them away inside their desks.

A unique loophole in a new security procedure means a gun permit is like a special-access pass into the domed building, allowing people who are certified to carry a gun to bypass lines at the metal detectors that were set up after a shooting incident earlier this year.

This is a re-print of a story a couple weeks back that showed the lobbyists pushed for this loop-hole, as they found out it gave them quicker and easier access to the legislators and didn't have to wait in line.

DPS feels that people w/ CHL's don't need to go through security because they've already been vetted.

Rick Perry is packing heat daily.

Lawful gun owners have privileges in Texas.
We are smart enough to know, not to fear the lawful.

A permit to pack heat in Texas, means just that. No exceptions.
There is no..."No, you can't here, and you can't there."

I was surprised to see that all you have to do to bypass security in a state courthouse in California is be a lawyer. Lines out the door waiting to go through the metal detector for everyone else, but the attorneys just breeze right through.

Another fine example of the success of the public school system run by liberals.

Did you by any chance mean secede?

I tend to avoid calling people out for typos but this one made me laugh. +1.

Due to a stint in the Army I've lived in many different parts of the country and although I've had some interesting experiences I still haven't found an area that I like better than Dallas Fort Worth, TX: vibrant economy, friendly people, good looking women, low cost of living, no state income tax, concealed carry licenses, and one of the best Castle laws in the entire nation along with a criminal justice system that actually works. We don't let the thugs ruin it for everybody else in this State. If you kill somebody in Texas, we will kill you back. I derive a great deal of satisfaction from that fact.

The irony of your snarky little comment is that Texas is probably the only state in the union that could actually pull off succession. We have all the natural resources that we need, plenty of can do entrepreneurial spirit, and absolutely no liberal BS to hold us back. Secede? I'm all for it!

Zekester,

Don't listen to those libbies who are jealous of Texas and its success. I hope Texas listens to this Yankee and does not secede. The United States would not be the same and would be worst off!
