I, like many other people in NYC, don't have an ID that I could show at a polling station. I had a driver's license, but I just let it expire because it is useless to me. Credit cards are payed online with no ID. Anything else to do with banking, such as cashing checks, they do not ask for ID, just your debit card. Worse case scenario they will ask for a utility bill as a proof of residency. I do have a passport, but that is only because I travel to Europe... which is of course not the American norm.
Your passport is a valid form of ID so you do have ID.

I know it is, but having it is certainly not the norm. If I led the same lifestyle, but didn't travel outside the country, I'd have no ID.
Let's be honest here - most people use their driver's license as their gov't ID, but believe it or not there are places where people with cars are a minority. 75% of New York County (Manhattan) residents do not own a car, and trust me they are not poor people. In fact, probably mostly poor people in Manhattan own cars in places like Harlem. Outside of driving you don't really need a government ID to live a normal life.
How..you have to show your voter card when you go to vote.
You think these same people won't be rummaging for their card ?
Why do you think showing ID will hold up voting when it doesn't for other things like writing a check for your purchases at stores ? I don't see 1000 people in line waiting..do you ?
You don't have to show them anything in my state, you just have to know your name, DOB, and address and if you are registered you are good to go. The reason you have to present your voter card is because you live in a state with voter ID laws. As to 1000 people in line from your posts I would guess you live in a rural area where people are fewer and far between. I have been in lines to vote in presidental elections that are well over 100 people and I live in a small city. If you watch CNN you can see lines, particularly in cities in battle ground states with lines of hundreds of people. If you have to wait in that and are working 12 hours and can only vote during your break it is defacto denying you your voting rights.

If people want to talk about voter fraud where is the mention of 2000? Do you want to discuss repugs focusing on dem voters serving in the military to get their votes disallowed? Do you want to look at the stolen ballot boxes? What about the racial profiling and challenge of over 50,000 black voters, categorizing them as felons (when they weren't). Bet that isn't the topic of voter fraud the right wants to discuss, convenient.
Not everyone who's against voter fraud or wants voter ID is right wing. I know it may be hard to you partisan types since it's always "your team good" vs "other team bad", but some of us actually want to see people of both ideologies go to jail for voter fraud.

Actually a voter ID bill is about to be passed in Texas.
I would not call Austin TX, Travis County rural.

Gee your city doesn't have early voting ?
You're making a blanket statement based on your personal situation.

Good afternoon,
Even in your situation, you initially needed ID to open a bank account to deposit those checks. In your state for a non-driver ID card, it's under $15! For elderly and SSI recipients, it's $6.50!

Arguments against using ID to vote are a red herring, especially with the low cost of state IDs and the inability to do much in society without identification.
I have to give my ID when pulled over, buy cold medicine
Why not when i vote?Shouldnt every citizen have ID?
Because Dems are mean nasty awful evil america hating commie fascist socialist nazi muslim loving bleeding heart godless Christ hating racist politically correct sub human opposite of everything that's good about america.

It's not like that all over the US.
My city does have early voting, but many states don't and Republicans are against that too. And no it is not like that all over the US it is only like that in some urban centers, often minority, which is exactly why Republicans in legislatures like these laws. If you can keep a few hundred registered voters in heavily democratic cities from voting in Ohio, Florida, or Missouri it could make all the difference. It is the same with felony lists that are used to exclude all John Smiths from voting in certain urban, democratic counties.
