I think this is quite a surprise, coming from a Democrat.
A surprise from a Democrat from Virginia. I think most politicians that get the minority vote would be afraid. I don't think it's surprising coming from him. He was the one that authored the post 9/11 GI Bill. Something that is great for our veterans. The thing that impresses me the most about him is his crime bill. S.714: National Criminal Justice Commission Act of 2010 - U.S. Congress - OpenCongress
If you repeal Affirmative-action, blacks will go backwards guaranteed. It starts in college admissions, where in all instances where affirmative-action has been repealed the numbers of blacks enrolled decreased dramatically. An end to affirmative-action would all but eliminate blacks from all of the elite colleges. Without affirmative-action, Obama would simply not be the president right now(who benefited from AA to get into college in the first place, his highschool grades were terrible).
Average SAT score for admittance to UF - Asian 1324, Black 1187, Hispanic, 1261, White 1318.
On average whites score about 30% higher on the ACT than blacks. If positions were given on merit alone, blacks would be almost non-existent in the upper-echelons of society.
"If we raise the top-scoring threshold to students scoring 750 or above on both the math and verbal SAT — a level equal to the mean score of students entering the nation's most selective colleges such as Harvard, Princeton, and CalTech — we find that in the entire country 244 blacks scored 750 or above on the math SAT and 363 black students scored 750 or above on the verbal portion of the test. Nationwide, 33,841 students scored at least 750 on the math test and 30,479 scored at least 750 on the verbal SAT. Therefore, black students made up 0.7 percent of the test takers who scored 750 or above on the math test and 1.2 percent of all test takers who scored 750 or above on the verbal section."
I think this is quite a surprise, coming from a Democrat. He argues that affirmative action programs especially hurt poor whites.
That was a great article, and well written.
I think he is dead on. Some issues have some gray area, but for the most part, I agree with him.
Affirmative action was needed in the 60's through the 80's. But its been 40 years. If you can't get yourself going in 40 years with government help, its time to do it on your own.
To many good people aren't getting hired, because they don't fit into a government minority profile.

Repealing affirmative-action = black failure.
I am not going to debate ignorance with a liberal racist such as yourself.
I scored 1500 on the SAT.. plain and simple, and guess what, my race had nothing to do with it. I was raised with proper values and to believe that education is key to success.
Webb has courage. Probably one of the few moderate Democrats I like.
AA is just one example of why the greater majority of any law passed by the Congress "must" include a sunset date wherein it can be reviewed and its viability over time recognized, thus either renewed with another sunset date or rescinded.
