In 1992 I lived in Phila. My son worked nights and my daughter-in-law was sleeping in a room with my brand new granddaughter.
As I was walking past their room I heard a noise and opened the door just as my daughter-in-law screamed. A man was climbing in the window and had stepped on her, without a thought I rushed in and pushed him so hard he not only went flying back out the window but, had fallen off the roof.
I called the police & went to the backyard where the man was lying in agony with a broken leg.

He was the drug addict son of another neighbor. It was a tragedy and believe it or not I still feel bad for the harm that came to him but, It scares me even more to think of what 'He would/could have done to us" or what my son would have done had he been home.

I now can use and own a gun and knowing myself I would not hesitate to use it.

No item is worth a human life but, if someone is breaking into your home how are you to 'KNOW' if they are there for burglary and/or if they would hurt you or if they are on drugs and you startled their attempt to steal?

BTW ... Castle doctrine extends to your vehicle in Texas.

Also in Texas there are laws on the books if someone crosses a fence or is on your PROPERTY after dark one is justified by law in using lethal force.

I will not be a victim. You come after me, mine, or my property and you may not survive. You have NO business there and it may cost you all your cardiac output!

Lethal force is on the table in Texas.

I am looking to take no one's life but I am prepared to.

If you go to any proper training class on home defense, this will be one of the first "myths" they dispel.

BobTex has the correct idea. He is prepared. In my case, the Beretta I carry has the safety off. I keep the hammer in the decocked position which makes the first round a double action pull of the trigger. In my training class I could draw and put two rounds in a human sized silhouette in 1.73 seconds.
