The only way to avoid problems like this you have to push the Politicians in your State to pass a Castle law like we have in Alaska. It gives you the right to defend yourself and your property with lethal force if necessary.

My uncle owned barrooms at one time and a guy walked in, sat down and ordered a drink. The bartender served him the drink and the guy reached in his pocket to pay but discharged a gun and shot through his own leg.

Even though the guy went to jail for having a gun in a bar he sued my uncle for getting hurt in his bar.

My uncle's insurance settled out of court and gave this guy $250K. They told my uncle that it was cheaper to settle than to go through a long court battle and they would not win anyway.
