See, the reverting to Amoco would really be dumb. I go to BP now more than ever. I figure they've been financially devestated by the spill and all the expense. And I figure they're probably one of those corporations that are "too big to fail". So instead of empty bail-out money that get nothing, I figure at least we'll get some gas out of them by supporting them at the pump.

Going or not going to a BP gas station, does nothing to BP. It does affect the distributors, who happen to be American businesses, just as are Amoco or Chevron, etc. If the BP branded distributors are feeling the effect of irrational boycotts, then changing that may be a good idea. The problem is, people relate the BP gas stations to BP the Oil Company. They are not related.
The BP stations are suffering from this debacle, but this should subside now that the spill is contained. It would take too long to rebrand all those stations, and by that time the business may recover.

I was pumping gas at an ARCO here in California a couple of weeks ago when another person at the opposite pump started talking to me about the oil spill in the gulf. He just kept going on and on about how irresponsible BP was and how he was glad to be boycotting them and buying gas from ARCO. That's when I pointed to the little BP sticker on the gas pump and just smiled. He could barely finish pumping gas into his truck with out dying of embarrassment. Get a grip people.
