The politically charged decisions by veteran Democratic Reps. Charles Rangel of New York and Maxine Waters of California to force public trials by the House ethics committee are raising questions about race and whether black lawmakers face more scrutiny over allegations of ethical or criminal wrongdoing than their white colleagues.

The question of whether black lawmakers are now being singled out for scrutiny has been simmering throughout the 111th Congress, with the Office of Congressional Ethics a focal point of the concerns. At one point earlier this year, all eight lawmakers under formal investigation by the House ethics committee, including Rangel and Waters, were black Democrats. All those investigations originated with the OCE, which can make recommendations — but take no final actions — on such cases.

There’s a “dual standard, one for most members and one for African-Americans,” said one member of the Congressional Black Caucus, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Quote:
The racism charge, though, was rejected by Melanie Sloan, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, an ethics watchdog group, even as she acknowledged the current situation is bound to anger black lawmakers.

“There are ethics problems within the CBC,” she said. “They have to acknowledge that.”

Ethics cases raise racial questions - John Bresnahan and Jonathan Allen - POLITICO.com

******************************************

1) Is anyone shocked that the CBC would cry racism instead of publicly denouncing alleged ethics violations of its Black members?

2) Why is this Caucus-member speaking "on condition of anonymity? If you're going to make claims of racism, at least have the fortitude to have your name and face associated with such claims. Again, is anyone surprised?

Race relations in this country will never improve as long as tripe like this is continuously spewed from Black leadership. NEVER.

Yeah, I'm even calling BS on this one.

Rangels case is nothing about race, and has been going on for sometime now.

Nothing racist about it, you have ethics violations, you're in trouble.

Honestly though, are there any politicians who haven't committed a ethics violation? Guess these guys just got caught.

It was only a matter of time. Im surprised they waited this long.

My personal opinion of the CBC is that its racist in itself. We finally get past slavery, and want to move past racism, and what do some of these clowns do? Make their own little clubs to segregate themselves from others. Screw the CBC and their idiotic opinion that this is about race.

And Jim Clyburn blames......the Tea Party? Of course, I shouldve known, the Tea Party hates black people so they used Jedi mind tricks to get Waters and Rangel to become crooks and liars.

"Who’s fault is this? Jim Clyburn says it’s the Tea Party:
Quote:
Representative James E. Clyburn, Democrat of South Carolina and the House whip, defended the two lawmakers’ rights to a trial, but said it was inevitable that some political opponents would try to turn the ethics questions into a race issue. “Those Tea Party people that showed up at the health care debate, they will not hesitate for one moment to racialize something,” said Mr. Clyburn, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus. “They did, and they will.”"

Unbelievable isn't it? Where will Democrats draw the line on using the Race Card? It's unfortunate. It's particularly unfortunate for unsuspecting Black citizens who get caught up in this crossfire. They have no control over what the CBC, NAACP, New Black Panthers, etc. say, yet they are the very people who suffer from this BS.

When will it stop?

Yep, didn't you know that the Tea Party is responsible for all that is wrong in the world? They rank right behind the American middle class white man for all the atrocities that are going on according to some

Maybe they can find a white congressman to charge with ethics violations to achieve more balanced diversity.

I just find it strange that all of these ethic violations are coming up just before a mid term election though! The timing is suspect!
Two prominent black members of Congress are being charged and Congress probably knew of Rangel's dealings before hand.
The CBC has right to question if it is race based.
