1. The population density in those states is higher, so the per person rate is higher.

How can the per person rate be higher because there are more people?

If anything, the the greater density of tax payers should reduce the individual burden.


2. Many of the states in the darker red, voted Republican in the last election.

also comes close to....
housing prices
(pre 2008)
give or take a state or two.
