Lifeline phone service has been available as long as I can remember. That the technology has changed doesn't mean anything except that the technology has changed. "obamaphones' my ass, just more ignorance if you ask me.
Do the Lifeline phones come with texting, and data plans?
This usually isnt my point of view ... but it doesn't bug me that much that she has a phone. If it is a basic cell plan, no data, picture messaging, etc ... no big deal. Many people don't have land lines, and a phone is necessary to trying to find a job, in my opinion.
What does bug me ... to add to this discussion ... is when I see people buying a load of groceries with "food stamps", then buying a bottle of alcohol separately, with cash.
You can get a pretty nice looking phone for free these days with a cell phone plan. I think it's pretty hard to argue that in today's America one can live without a phone.
I'm doing just fine without a cell phone.. Never had one and don't want one.
Probably 95% of the people that have them don't really need a CELL phone.
I'm eligible for a free cell phone and food stamps on the basis of my blindness. I certainly hope that if I used either, people wouldn't judge me. Though I can't know for sure these days. Some people seem to think that getting any sort of help is a sign of weakness.
No I don't have a problem with those that really need help getting help with food stamps, I do have a problem with others being taxed for their cell phone to pay for your cell phone....
i have a feeling that you and I would agree on a lot .... BUT i think having phone communications is necessary while looking for work. We want them EMPLOYED, so having a cell phone is helpful.
As said above .. text, data plan? No. Simple cell plan... sure. BUT .. i dont think it should be funded by the Gov.
cell phone, cable, food stamps???? yep but only if you are getting welfare, not if you are a welfare worker. those serving welfare clients, you know the one being yelled at, cant afford cell phone, cable and often have a tough time putting groceries on the table for their kids.
