The ubiquitous pro-war message that pervades every nook and cranny of our information environment manages to mask a measurable, irrefutable truth that would otherwise be as plain as you know what: The most destructive and morally insolvent society on earth is not the Axis of Evil or the evil doers or even the remnants of the Evil Empire. It is the nation that once had hopes of becoming a "kinder, gentler nation" and that "shining city on the hill."
I think the real problem with our massive military industrial complex is it does not know what to do with itself.
Its like a bored teenager with lot of aggressive energy but no father figure to direct and check that energy.
I often (and rightly so) criticize Dubya Bush but I think he was onto something, when he talked about colonizing space.
I'm glad that Barry has made it a priority that NASA develop asteroid technology and both them and the military have a new focus on clean, renewable energy.
I just think that he needs to push for and make it clear that the top priorities for NASA and our military is the development of safe, alternative energy sources and the colonization of outer space.
The Western expansion and exploration, the World Wars and the Cold Wars brought about rapid technological progress and I believe the twin quests outlined above could do the same.
And this is just the kind of 'in-your-face' truth - http://original.antiwar.com/huber/20...ite-our-faces/ - that unfortunately will, most likely, be denied as truth. This is the biggest problem with the majority of our society. Jumping to conclusions and then not admitting the truth when it is quite apparent. So round and round we go. What happens when no one is left to relight the flame... DARKNESS. The end of human-kind. Good luck to us all. I suppose this comment is most definitely too 'deep' for most to understand.
