Sanrene, I personally believe this is the single most overlooked fact of the last 9.5 years. While most people on the left (and some independents and conservatives) tend to point the finger at GWB, the fact of the matter is that Congress holds the purse strings. There's no denying that Democrats have presided over the worst 4 years since the Jimmy Carter years, if not since the Great Depression.
It's time for the Liberal Left to stand up and acknowledge that the people they put their full trust in has failed this nation miserably.
Who will be the first to stand up acknowledge they screwed up by allowing these people to do the damage they've done?
The country took a nosedive when bush and the right had complete control of congress, pumping out far right bills like a machine. Leading to the crash in housing, banks, unemployment, everything. Dems got control of congress when the country was fed up with the bush fascist reign and absolutely slaughtered the republicans at the polls like nothing ever seen before. That's when they put the brakes on. We're still feeling the aftershock of the far right's disaster.

The interviewer then said: "Your proposal would be dismissed on Wall Street as 'big government.' Republicans might call it European-style 'socialism.'" Soros replied:
"That is exactly what we need now. I am against market fundamentalism. I think this propaganda that government involvement is always bad has been very successful -- but also very harmful to our society…. I think it is better to have a government that wants to provide good government than a government that doesn't believe in government…. At times of recession, running a budget deficit is highly desirable. Once the economy begins to recover, you have to balance the budget. In 2010, the Bush tax cuts will expire and we should not extend them. But we will also need additional revenues."

Now you two people discussing facts just can't look at yourselves as nice people. There are many here who will go along with moveon.org, CAP, and the others about how bad Bush really was and that there was just too much Bush bad for them to overcome that soon. They will still be talking about the 8 years of Bush and the Republicans in control of Congress when the election is over this fall. They really believe what George Soros tells them through his organization like I mentioned above. They just don't want to believe anything other than what Soros wants them to believe.

Then you're profoundly ignorant that the Great Recession was caused by reckless lending practices by financial institutions, securitized mortgages, and a speculative bubble based on these pillars which burst. And you have to be brain-dead to think that these practices weren't encouraged and enabled over a long, three-decade period by so-called fiscal-conservatives who forgot the lessons of the 1920s.
