And yes, the world is a much different place now then it was back then. My grandparents always say that they could sleep with their doors unlocked and now they wouldn't dream of doing that..
My entire family, plus some extended, have already agreed to do just that if necessary. I also have some friends who I know would put me up if push came to shove. I've housed a young man (not related) for a few years, off and on, when he didn't have anywhere to go. He is technically "homeless" but never dreamed of looking to the government for assistance for a place to live since he had us, and extended family of his own that he could count on when his roommates bailed and he could no longer afford his apartment.

I would sure let people to move in with me if the alternative would be living on the street or in a homeless shelter. But only people I knew personally, not just random homeless people. That's why it's important to have relationships with people and cultivate them during the good times, so when the tide turns you aren't left all alone.

Like I have repeatedly said, there IS A NEED for government assistance, I just don't think the need is as big as everyone thinks when you consider that people can and do have alternatives to having a place of their own. That shouldn't be the goal.

It's a no brainer. The Republicans are in the pockets of big business and the wealthy. Shucks... if one is really, sincerely interested it's all over the Internet. GOOGLE IT!!

Don't believe everything you read on the internet. That is how World War One was started.

I tend to think the people did not realize it was just a waiting list but thought that they were going actually be given applications. Not sure and I agree I would not subject myself to that heat either but what I find really interesting is that in a city of 40,000, almost 30,000 showed up.

Haha, really? I didn't notice that but I did say before that it's annoying when people go out to do business and bring an entourage with them. Only 13,000 forms were given out BTW so clearly more than half the people there didn't need to be so I don't feel sorry for anyone standing in line.

I don't know why they had to bring uncle Bubba and his second cousins sister..

All kidding aside there would have been half the crowd and half the wait if everyone would have came by themselves...

Dont think so. We had to give up a local Christmas toy program cause a couple of welfare moms would grab up every kid they could fit in the car and scarf up all the toys in 5 mins and the deserving kids got nothing.it becomes a way of life for these lazy leeches
