I find it sad. These folks are waiting in line simply for a waiting list. 8-10,000 people in this heat. They only qualify if they make 1/2 of median income of 32,000. That's only $16,000 for a family a year. The kicker - the subsidy goes to private landlords - so much for private enterprise not wanting a hand out from the state or federal government.
I'm wondering if we curtailed our war spending - if things like this would be such a big deal. After all, if we are providing for folks in other countries, but not for our own citizens at home, I see something really wrong. We just cut the food stamp program to give money to States for salaries of teachers, etc.. Doesn't anyone know kids can't learn, unless they are fed. Reminds me more of Reagan - more than hope and change of Obama; bigger government, subsidies to private enterprises. No regard for the poor.
How is this a "handout" to private enterprise? These landlords could do the selfish thing and only rent to people who could pay the FULL RENT. They are providing a service to the community, but should not have to eat the actual cost to maintain the property and make a living.
Do they realize they are applying for "waiting list"?? The problem is there are people that legitimately need these things but the majority of the crowd does not.... wasted money if there isn't oversight and accountability...
Yes, but even waiting lists hold a value to someone when its a free gift on the taxpayers dime..

Being selfish has nothing to do with it. I very well doubt, they could get FULL RENT, especially in this economy. The only reason they are doing it - is to have a GUARANTEED rent income from the government.
You don't eat the cost to maintain a rental property - you write it off, as a deduction on your taxes, thus reducing your stated income. Having the government subsidize your income is just that.
I would actually call the landlords unselfish and private enterprise - if they did it on their own The landlord is no different than the tenant. They are both getting something for free from tax payer dollars. Just calling it what it is
Its working, the admin has whipped the nanny state into a frenzy.
