Since I didn't lose anyone on 911, and don't live in New York, I searched for an article or comments by 911 families about this and survivors. The attached article pretty much sums it up.

The best quote I found in the article is that just because they have the right to do it doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.

Families of WNY 9/11 victims question mosque location - The Buffalo News (http://www.buffalonews.com/city/article99415.ece - broken link)

I wonder what would hurt to move this proposed mosque, the purpose of which on paper is admirable, a few blocks further away. Personally, if I knew I was planning to do something that would cause someone pain, I would not do it. Political pundits would have zero affect on my decision.

"A" poll? At least three, that ALL show overwhelming opposition to the building of a MOSQUE at ground zero.

How do you think the terrorists will take that? Celebration maybe?

Nice editorializing. It's amazing that someone would not recognize it as such, and take it as fact instead.

Is there no independent thought engaged when reading this?

Default Hurtful

If you want to answer the question "how do you know they're radicals?" the answer is they are building a mosque at Ground Zero. Like Krauthammer wrote today, Germans reject the views of the Nazis, yet they don't build a German cultural heritage center at the gates of Aushwitz. This mosque could have been built in literally any other space in America, yet they choose the half mile radius surrounding the WTC to build this mosque. They could have built this a few blocks further away and no one would have batted an eye. I believe that they have a right to build a private mosque on private land, but I also think it is in very poor taste to do so.

Least of all your President who I would never acknowlege because he is too embarrassing.
Maybe he is yours but he is not mine, he is just a little boy with an agenda that is in control for a little while.
Don't give me any lectures on America either, that is the country YOUR president is trying to destroy.
Well, golly whillikers...I'm an AMERICAN too, and I guess that makes him MY president too...which leads to this...

If you don't like that president, do what all of your screaming, chest-beating, red-faced friends are threatening to do---go to the polls in 2012 and vote him out!...I am getting sick and tired of all this loud-mouthed blustering and complaining going on, like anybody who opens their mouth to defend the President or his policies, or his opinions (i.e. the Mosque issue) is suddenly not an American...what utter baseless juvenile horsedung...

And further, exactly who died and told you to start judging who's an American and who's not? I was unaware that such an elected office existed, except maybe in your mind...don't lecture you? Then don't try to tell anyone else what they can and can't do, and maybe nobody will have cause to 'lecture' you...

I fully understand what 9-11 means to ALL Americans...I was at work in an office building in a Chicago suburb that day, when a co-worker said in an anguished tone 'someone just flew a passenger jet into the World Trade Center!'...that day also happened to be my birthday, and I knew then that nothing in America would ever be the same...I wept with sadness for the victims and their families, and I trembled with anger at the audacity of the perpetrators...

But you know what I DIDN'T do, and still don't to this day? Demonize and stereotype an entire ethnic/religious group because of the extreme actions of a group of its' members...the same goes for politics...I will NOT lump EVERY person who supports the GOP and its platform as 'right wing nuts', because it's not true...and equally ludicrous is the notion that anyone who disagrees with some conservative policies and opinions is either A) a liberal, B) a left-winger, C) a Communist/Socialist, D) un-American, or God forbid, E) all of the above...

Which leads to my final question...exactly WHAT will the GOP/right wing/TeaParty do if they gain control of the Congress in 2010, and the White House in 2012? All I and a lot of others have seen and heard, non-stop, since Inauguration Day in 2009, is a lot of screaming, whining, crying, podium-pounding, smart-a**ed remarks from ex-governors turned paid hucksters, baseless accusations of terrorists as bedfellows, demands for birth certificates, predictions of death panels and backroom conspiracies, threats to repeal existing laws, suggestions that Constitutional amendments be changed...in short, nothing whatsoever indicating a party line, platform, manifesto, agenda, to-do list...nothing except a lot of 'ohhhh boy!---just you wait'll the elections! We're gonna take this country BACK!'

Back from whom? No one political party, racial, ethnic, or religious group owns the US, so exactly who or what is it being taken back from? And what assurances does the voting public have that if the GOP DOES win, that they won't be as bad or WORSE than those they are clamoring to ride out of office on a rail? What's to say it won't be 'business as usual' in Washington, just under the banner of a different party? So far, I have seen or heard NOTHING WHATSOEVER that will convince me that the US will be in good hands with a GOP victory, besides a lot of fat-mouthing from overheated talking heads, former House Speakers, and various and assorted other fruits and nuts, claiming that the Apocalypse is nigh unless we 'throw out those damned liberals', as if the very act of BEING a liberal, or thinking liberal thoughts alone in one's bed at night, is tantamount to 'treason, blasphemy, and by-God un-Americanism!' You have GOT to be kidding me on that one, as if non-liberals are some bunch of simon-pure, pious, wholesome individuals that don't even so much as spit on a hot sidewalk...

Boy howdy...the absolute utter gall of some folks

Well said. I used to post here a lot more, but not so much anymore because all I see is overwhelming negativity, intolerance and outright lies coming from the anti-Obama crowd.

That is a scary thought isn't it. What would they do? They haven't said what they would do, but based on everything they oppose, and what they seem outraged about, it won't be pretty. I'd say that unless you are white wealthy Christian, you'll be in big trouble. Those who will be allowed to stay in the country, will live in more or less permanent Threat Level "Red" and "Orange" so that they understand that without the protection of the government, they are all doomed.

And economics: are they sure they want GOP calling the shots on economy? If they did their homework, I don't think they would. Reagan insider: 'GOP destroyed U.S. economy' http://www.marketwatch.com/story/rea...omy-2010-08-10

You gotta be careful what you wish for.

Indeed, you do.

One man's paradise is another man's hell. Those who do not have the larger vision, the broader experience of seeing the impossible become reality, will not be able to believe that the unbelievable can creep up on mankind, appearing quite harmless in its approach.

It is always safer and more prudent to consider all the scenarios, impossible as they might seem.

Ummmm, read the thread..
I am the one who was accused of not being an American with a long story telling me all about America and what America is like.
Anyway though, I am an American, so no need to tell me about the country or what I have to do to get rid of the worst President ever and like your rant above?
Others have the right to rant as well.

I DID read the thread...any time I post a rebuttal, or come to the defense of a fellow poster, I read the preceding thread thoroughly, and make absolutely sure that I am directing my comments to the right person...now, based on that, if I misread ANY of the comment you made to the gentleman who stated that 'B.H. Obama is his president', then, as is my custom on here, I will apologize...

At no time did I, or WILL I, cast doubt or aspersions on your being an American...that is not my call or my place---bottom line...

However, we can and probably will agree to disagree on Obama's status as 'worst president ever'...that's your opinion, and you have a right to express said opinion---the same exact right as I had to disagree with your opinion, which I did at some length...but the question still remains---if he's the 'worst ever', then what assurances do I as a voter/citizen have that whomever opposes him in 2012, should that individual win, will not be as 'bad' or even WORSE than Mr Obama?

That was the main point of the last two rather long paragraphs in my post...I haven't seen or heard ANYONE from the 'other camp' who has persuaded me to either change my vote, or feel reassured that the US will be in good hands should that person be elected...nothing but sound-bites and hot air, and THAT does not a reassuring choice make
