So the first "post-partisan" president, the one who came to prominence with a speech about uniting Red America and Blue America, launches another speech into the top ten most hyper-partisan presidential speeches of all time.

Obama has spoken many times of the need to grapple with the entitlement issue. Then he poisens the well with this kind of garbage. He has shown that the words "work with the other side" actually mean, you can show up and salute my ideas any time.

Just because Nevada's chicken woman wants to privatize SS, doesn't mean SHE officially speaks for EVERY Republican candidate! That's asinine to believe that. Obama is just trying to scare people with his usual fear mongering and it's getting really old.

This is perhaps the BIGGEST lie he has ever told. And it isn't for the lack of a long list of whoppers.

Do you "just believe it" because Obama said it ?

Which Republican is running on a campaign of privatizing SS ?
Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Sharron Angle says the nation's Social Security system needs to be privatized, and she says it was done before in Chile.

It doesn't matter if someone is actually running a campaign based on this, Obama has spoken it so it must be true.... right?

It's getting closer to elections..he has to stoke the fear that Republicans will strip Americans of everything they have near and dear to them.

I have yet to hear Dem campaign talk of what THEY did to deserve re-election.

From the OP link...is this true ? I have not read or heard of this:
"But some Republican leaders in Congress don't seem to have learned any lessons from the past few years," he said. "They're pushing to make privatizing Social Security a key part of their legislative agenda if they win a majority in Congress this fall."
Yup, Co. GOP senate candidate Ken Buck on 8/12/2010 called for the privitization of social security. "But the idea that the federal government should be running healthcare or retirement or any of those programs is fundamentally against what I believe and that is that the private sector runs programs like that far better."

Taking the govt. out of social secuity will guarentee the govt takes over Wall Street. Imagine all of one's savings going down the tubes in a free fall. People will demand Congress bail out even more companies. People like free enterprise, but don't have the stomach for it without regulation.

Working to save social security good, privatization bad.

Got it. I agree.

G.W. Bush squandered his political capital pushing such a plan. By contrast, Reagan acted to save Social Security, working with Democrats. I do not believe Republicans will really try this again.

So one Republican says it outside of Congress and all of a sudden it's the Republican "agenda" if they get in office ?

You have to admit that Obama IS stretching it a bit, isn't he ?

Well that certainly seems like it. A few spoken words outside of Congress, not part of any legislature or Rebublican Party agenda.

FEAR, FEAR, FEAR.
Is that what campaigning is all about now..make sure the people fear the other party ?

We've stooped so low we're dragging the ground here.
