Ah, well. At least under President Reagan the USA opened its borders to allow lots and lots of Japanese cars to be imported.
Indeed, soon after leaving office he went to Japan and spoke (to a group including those Japanese automakers) for about 20 minutes, for which he received two million dollars.
No link. My memory. I guess you could look up the number of Japanese imports and see the numbers if you desire (I recall the Information Please almanac having the numbers at one point).

Well, it has been my experience, both here and on other forums, that people of a certain mindset will not accept facts when handed to them on a golden plate. Hence, I do not worry if some anonymous poster does not believe me on something that is well known.
My memory serves me pretty well. I recall events dating back to the political conventions of Goldwater and Johnson (1964; no link provided, I'm afraid). I listened on the radio as President Nixon resigned from office (drat, no link; he may still be president!). I sat and watched in awe as we (USA) landed men on the moon in July 1969 (link????). I even watched the Beatles each time they appeared on the Ed Sullivan show (three times! No link!).
Events and facts are true even if they are not 'linked' to anything. I do realize that many, many statements are made on this board that people want 'proof' (President Obama is Hindu!). Yet when a person speaks of events of pretty common knowledge, 'links' should not be expected or required.
Instead of asking for links, try 'the real world'. Next time you are out, ask some grizzled automobile dealer about imports when President Reagan was in office. I bet you get an earful, and if you 'doubt' him due to no 'links', well, I would want to be there to watch.

Could be...still that amount of money for a 20 minute speech???

Not really, Ronnie's profession was playing roles and he played it to the hilt.

Why? The topic is Saint Ronnie, IMO his near sainthood with the right is not warranted by anything factual. Then again I find it a bit offensive when an administration sells weapons to an enemy.
