In some places they are working 18 hour days for 20 cents an hour, but yes corporate America is just shipping jobs overseas because their bleeding hearts want to enrich the lives of the Chinese.

Outsourcing as been a boon for me. Software projects shipped out to other nations by US corporations in the 1990s and 2000s are coming back unusable because those foreign nations don't understand American culture. Then those very same companies are hiring people, like me, to redevelop those failed projects.

Outsourcing has not had an adverse effect on me, just the opposite. So I truly hope it continues. However, unlike government, businesses tend to learn from their mistakes and not repeat them. As a result, I do not expect this gravy train to last forever.

Good for you Glitch. I too have had to redo software that "came back home". By then customers are angry beyond words and the pressure is on to rectify the situation. No time for proper design work and review; it's "just fix the damn code" so we bandaid it as best we can.

I'm retraining and getting out in the next year or two.
It was a good ride while it lasted and I had lots of fun (20 years) but have now found my fun in the Open Source community along with other talented "throw-aways" from corporate IT.

Outsourcing is part of the free market. I don't agree with every aspect of it, but I don't think abolishing it would help our economy.

It's way too late. You can't "undo" globalization.

I do not agree with this. We can undo the bad trade deals and reimpose tariffs like we used to have to protect jobs. It only takes the will and political support to do it. I would love to see these trade deals put to a popular vote.

Sure, it took many years to get us into this economic mess and it will likely take years to get out, but me must start somewhere or continue the decline. I for one don't want to work for 3rd world wages, but if trans-national companies have their way, we all will be.

But what about the "free market" and lack of government interference that the conservative crave so much.

A likely exception here may be for Spanish (or other) speaking call centers and workers. Offshore those jobs to Mexico or appropriate location.

With penalties for any law maker who routes those funds to other projects or interests.
But the conservatives are of the opinion the government taxes too much and interfers too much in business. Many of them would also think that retraining or providing eduational benefits would be "socialism".

Of course this is why Corporate America loves the conservatives so much.

You are confusing the term "out sourcing" with "off shoring". The two are totally different.

Companies frequently outsource work to other companies in the US and the jobs stay in the US. Also, many companies off shore jobs without outsourcing.
