Oh and please never think about opening a beer or having a glass of scotch.

And remember the dress codes when you go to the mall.

Yes - Arab nations are certainly more tolerant then the U.S.

Preaching religions other than Islam may result in imprisonment and corporal punishment.
The importation and use of alcohol, pork products, pornography (including images of scantily clad people, particularly women), religious books and materials (other than those reflecting orthodox Islam) is forbidden.

Generally, individuals are able to bring one bible for private use.

Possession of alcohol may result in imprisonment and corporal punishment. Travellers have been detained on arrival in Saudi Arabia when police have detected the smell of alcohol on their breath.

It is illegal for unmarried couples to live together. Hotels may refuse accommodation to couples unable to provide proof of marriage.

Public displays of affection, including kissing and holding hands, are considered offensive.
Public events are segregated according to gender.

How is that for tolerance in Arab Countries compared to the U.S.?

I would expect Muslim countries to welcome Christian and Jewish worship as these religions are derived from Abraham. I would not expect any of these religions to tolerate Wicca or other "pagan" faiths.

Honestly, I don't believe they are. But all week I've heard, "Well when Saudi Arabia..."

Well they are at least in the works to try and get one, their major sticking point from what I read, is they want the Catholic Church to recognize Muhammad as a prophet. (Like that'll ever happen)

But, the question still stands, if Qatar already has a Christian Church, in a region that never had one before, and we are using other intolerant countries as our measuring stick, are they more tolerant than us?

In my view Qatar is way more advanced than Saudi Arabia. I know someone in Doha, she doesn't even mind my being a heathen. Sure, she is just one person, but from what she has told me Qatar is more progressive and educated than Saudi Arabia. Arabs are not all the same...

Nobody is saying the muslims can't build a mosque. There are probably 100 of them in NYC. I think the sticking point is that they want to put one a few blocks from ground zero...named after a major islamic military conquest. I'm not sure what planet you'd have to be from to think that was an appropriate thing to do.

Christian churches in Qatar and maybe Saudi Arabia? They'd damn well better be tolerant. Or they'll find themselves shut down in less time than it takes to tell. The governments of Qatar and Saudi Arabia aren't likely to observe the same niceties as the U.S. government does. Churches in those countries exist at all at the governments' sufferance. Or, to put it in other words, they know their place and they're not going to upset any apple carts.
