You're right. Life in Spain, Europe or most any where on the planet wasn't so great in the 6th - 9th centuries, or even before or after.
However, Life in Spain today, as a non-catholic isn't so bad. As I understand, one doesn't even get hassled for smoking pot in his/her own home.
But today, as a non-Muslim in an Islam conquered territory, you're still a second class citizen. And to radical Islam, Ground Zero is... if anything... Islam conquered territory. No one calls it the WTC. No one calls it the WTC Memorial. No one calls it hallowed ground. Everyone calls it Ground Zero.
May as well call it New Cordoba

It is the World Trade Center. The memorial at the World Trade Center is the National 911 Memorial. The tallest tower is One World Trade Center.

Let's see...fundraising, demolition and building permits, actual demolition, design, bidding award, construction...all in 13 months time, and then needing police protection from the rabid anti-Muslims on opening day THE SAME day as the National 911 Memorial opens...I don't ****in' think so.
Then again, we could just read the more factual articles that tell us the timetable for this mosque to be completed is three to five years.
I don't think you could construct this building in corn field in Nebraska in less than 13 months but lets not ask people to think how totally absurd that statement is when their mind is made up.

Be fair. You did say "everyone". And of course it's not just people associated with the rebuild who call it The World Trade Center. None of the subway or PATH station signs or the NYC Subway map or any other map that I know of refers to "Ground Zero."
You are right, it is called that in the news, and the media's drama tactics have eaten into people's brains.
Read some history : The Koran (018:021) states: 'Build a building over them, their Lord knows best about them;' and those who prevailed in their affair said, 'We will surely make a mosque over them.'
This is not a direct commandment to build on a place of victory, but there is a tradition of building mosques to celebrate or symbolize victory.
