I understood the wisdom of George W. Bush on 9/12/01. Up until that point, I simply had my fingers crossed for him. The guy is not given the credit he deserves on many fronts. While he and fellow GOP'rs made mistakes, I still believe he had what it takes to lead this country during this period of radical Islam.
I, for one, am not surprised to see leftists all of a sudden wanting to hear from GWB. Liberals have never been known for their extraordinary foresight. This is par for the course.

It is a show of integrity. Is has always been considered good form that former still-living Presidents not weigh in on the policies of the administration currently in office nor on highly devisive topics.
Former Presidents have been long considered mostly silent, respectful, grandfatherly-like statesmen who remain in the background of American politics making visits from time to time to other heads of state but staying out of policy.
IMO, this unspoken rule has held true overall with the recent exceptions of fmr. Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.
No one with any intellectual honesty can refute the respectable behavior of either fmr. President Bush SR. or G.W. after they have left office.

What does Bush have to do with all of this? Why wouldn't the liberal elitist media prefer a fellow liberal to speak? Because they would rather paint all conservatives as bigoted Christian fundamentalists. This isn't about religion. It's about an attack on our soil that they're trying to rub in by building a mosque on conquered ground.
It seems to me to be an altogether stupid position to take that liberal journalists shouldn't want to hear what conservative politicians have to say. They're journalists, for heaven's sake. Of course they would like George W Bush to weigh in on this issue. His comments would be NEWS. Their job is reporting and commenting on NEWS.

This is an issue of zoning, of funding, questions of the ideology of the Imam, and the respect some are asking the Muslims of NYC, including Imam Ruf, to show for the community as a whole. There is and has not been any violation of the First Amendment nor of human rights.

Why then do you wish Bush to speak out and voice his opinion on this matter? When, if ever, have you been interested in hearing his viewpoints. The partisan hypocrisy is yours. It's not as if Bush has been traveling the country weighing in on national issues since he left office, so why do you demand that he do so now?
