PC people would ban that phrase if they could come up with something they thought was better.

That's not true at all. Generally, your so called people PC people listen to and try to empathize when people when they say a word such as "retard" is an offensive word while conservatives say, "No it isn't, so suck it up!"

Want a perfect example of how conservatives are so behind on this issue? Dr. Laura.

My feeling is that if it's no longer used to reference a person of limited mental capacity or other handicap then it's fair game to be used outside the medical community any way we please. You can't eliminate the use on one side but still consider it an insult when used by the other.

PC types Don't like words like "Crippled" also. It's accurate, and hence that's the reason why they find it offensive. Their suggested replacements are not specific enough, so you cannot be sure of what they are talking about, but if you said someone is "crippled" you'd know exactly what they are referring to.

Ban cliches, except for this one:

Common sense isn't very common anymore.

Retarded has long been used in a derogatory context against people who are mentally slow, challenged, disabled,...retarded. The derogatory use had become ubiquitous, but we don't need to legally ban the word.

I refuse to call the person with Downs syndrome retarded. Why? Because more often than not it's used in a hurtful manner.

How about everyone name the word(s)/name(s) that would be offensive if someone referred the word to you.

But they are retarded. They have very low IQs.

What about the truth is so offensive to you?

Do you not call blind people blind because they cannot see?

Do you not use the term deaf?

What is the problem with descriptive words?

Usually the term "retarded" or "retard" is used regarding someone who does not have a low IQ, but is acting as if they do.

Nothing that you can say would bother me. Don't you remember that old childhood saying..."sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me?" It's true, people have to stop being pansies.
