It might make Muslims think all non-Muslim Americans support that, just like the West calls for peaceful Muslims to protest Islamic terrorism and when that doesn't happen, they conclude that probably all Muslims support terrorism.
It is just not a very wise thing to do... Some people might feel better for half an hour when they can vent their hate, but I doubt that is worth it.

Who, in your expert opinion, has the power to issue a global fatwa?

Allahu Akbar -- Allahu Akbar -- 400/19=21.05 per jacker, not bad.

Does any one know who this allahu is?

You know what I find funny? If these had been Muslims burning Bibles, all of you saying "well it's their right to burn the books" would be all up in arms about it.

Just when you think you've seen it all, they come up with this insidious event.

I wonder if these right wing hacks know that over 400 Muslims were killed in the Sept 11th attacks right along with other nationals from several other countries and faiths.
I wonder if the left wing hacks know that more Muslims are killed by Muslims, for the same reason they kill non-Muslim - a lack of religious tolerance, oh, and because they are following the holy Quran

If Salmon Rushdie wants to criticize Islam in the USA, no more fatwahs. Islam doesn't get to say anything about how things are done in the USA or the kind of free speech we allow here.

The term fatwa is often misused. It's a a ruling on a point of Islamic law that is given by a recognized authority(a mufti). Its non-binding and as there is no central authority in Islam such as the Pope or the Mormon hierarchy, fatwas can be challenged by other Muslim religious authorities. Basically a fatwa is supposed to be scholarly opinion that can be debated by other scholars. There are thousands of fatwas, often contradicting each other. The vast majority of fatwas don't involve violence, although according to the media usage of the word, you'd think fatwas simply mean a call to kill someone.

Burning books is nothing compared with burning the WTC and all those thousands of people in it. And burning books is nothing compared with the atrocities being done against people in Nigeria, the Sudan, the Middle East, Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Israel.

You will never see the liberals speak out against Muslim acts no matter how horrendous. If they club a woman to death because she was raped by a married man - it's not a problem, if they strap a bomb onto someone to kill innocent Jewish students - it's not a problem, if they fly airplanes into our buildings killing thousands of innocent people - it's not a problem.

But some people burn some book and suddenly the liberals are outraged.
Bold: Wow...

Red: Double wow...Just when you think people could be any more ignorant...

How is that ignorant? You libs are making a whole lot more fuss about a few books being burned than you ever made over a few thousand people burned in the 9-11 plane bombing of the WTC.

Not to mention the slaughter of Christians and animists in the Sudan or the burning of churches in Nigeria, the beheadings of Christians in Indonesia and all the suicide bombers in Israel (the list goes on).
