The burning of the Koran is a protest against a religion and PEOPLE.

Both acts are WRONG!
So lemme get this straight. You say burning the AF is protesting politics/government but burning the Koran is attack on the people and religion. What the heck is the difference?

Burning the Flag, burns the American symbol. Burning the koran, burns the islamic symbol...Tell me, where is the double standard now?

In essence, you say, legally speaking of course, it is okay to burn the American symbol(freedom of speech and expression), but not okay to burn the islamic symbol....

Default Fahrenheit 451 Revisited

Afghanistan protests the planned burning of the Koran on 9/11 in the U.S.
While book burning is most often associated with Nazi-Germany, it may
happen again 3 days from now when members of a Christian church plan
to burn copies of the Islamic holy book.

You don't see the potential for local sectarian violence - the burning of Korans seems to be a provocation for local Muslims to burn down the church or target its members thus producing a cycle of violence and retaliation. Sectarian violence has occurred in many countries and the US is fortunate enough that it has been spared it in modern times. So, in addition to all the violence over turf and violence over race we'd have sectarian violence as well.

The church has the legal right to burn Qurans that it owns on its own property, but doing so is extremely repulsive and obnoxious and is clearly intended to incite violence.

Note that General David Petraeus has said that the Quran burning will put the lives of US troops in danger:

I think it's a very tacky to burn Qu'rans, but I do support the right to do it. It's symbolic of our freedom and liberty.

Burning of the Koran is an attack on all one billion people in numerous lands who practice the Muslim faith which far transends nation states.
To burn the American flag, insulting as it is,is in fact a show of difinance against the American government,if a somewhat childish act, difiance none the less.
This act has been performed countless times outside the Muslim world..by students, anti war protesters and the like.

I think burning a flag is not right.
Nor is burning the Qu'ran.

Both acts are disrespectful.

Very much so.For certain not in American interests in so many places in the world, even worse allows radical Islam,a propaganda victory..and indeed must raise the threat to christian symbols, considerably.

Do we care what these people or animals think of us! not a way to make brownie points, but who are we trying to impress anyways. Hey there are Knuckleheads who burn our American Flag laugh and gloat about it, is this right, People do not seem to get in a tizzy over that little skit. I am in no way saying this is the right thing to do, but is there not a thing called FREEDOM OF SPEECH, or is that a bunch of crap. Would not be the first time a religious book was burned, again, not saying this is right, but freedom of speech does it ring a bell. And i am sorry freedom of Speech or whatever you want to call it, but i do take offense to the American Flag being burned, stepped on, tromped over, and laughed at.

Just a few of my observations on the koran burning.
1. The church and pastor most likely just want attention and possibly even a pay off not to go through with it. He's a crackpot.
2. The media is blowing this out of proportion so they get blame as well.
3. If this oddball chruch burns korans the international moslem community can score major points by ignoring it. Or they can be condemned by making a cause for unrest over it.
4. This koran burning is almost as offensive as the idea of building a Mosque on Ground Zero. Where are peoples minds these days?
5. Its also almost as stupid as defending the building of the mosque and using the term "Islamophobia" in hopes of political gain. Again, where are peoples minds these days?
6. When was the last time the media reported burning bibles or US flags as protests?
7. It seems like american moslems don't care too much about building the mosque or the burning of the korans. They get a thumbs up.
8. Burning a koran or banning a Christmas tree or Manger scene from public property is not very different. Intolerance is intolerance. Ignorance is ignorance.
9. Obama has very smartly heeded advice and stayed out of the issue and let others speak for him. He can't afford another gaffe.
10. I'll ignore any reports of this story on 9/11; I won't forget the real meaning of the day.
