It's pretty doubtful that he will gain re-election if he continues down this tried and failed path he's hell bent on continuing.
So after the 2012 election, what do you think Obama will do?
Go back to community organizing?
Go back to professional campaigning to help other democrats get elected? - (although I don't see many dems signing up for his help, more like running from it)
Run for political office in Illinois or try to get his IL senate seat back?
Become a MSNBC host?
Or, maybe he will write more of his memoirs from his state paid jail cell.
He'll be re-elected and after 2016 (since the Repubs have no chance with since no candidates worthwhile are coming forward), he'll go back to what he was doing before. Be a lawyer, or be a professor. Oh, he'll do the speech tour as well.
No chance in hell he'll get re-elected unless he does a complete about-face. He lost any republican support he ever had, he's lost much of the independent vote, and he's currently in the process of p**sing off the far left.

I'm going with community organizing. His disdain for whites is his defining characteristic, and shaking down white people is all he knows. He is unlikely to change.
"It's much more lucrative than being in office," says John LaRosa, research director at Marketdata Enterprises, a research firm that specializes in niche industries. He points out that popular motivational speakers such as Dr. Phil or Deepak Chopra can charge up to $60,000 per event, while superstars such as Tony Robbins command up to $170,000 per appearance. "Presidents are toward the upper end of the scale," LaRosa said.
It's not surprising that the Bushes would want to refill their coffers. As 43rd president of the United States, Bush only earned about $400,000 a year and now receives an annual pension of about $200,000. These incomes pale in comparison to the personal assets worth millions of dollars which yielded annual interest income of more than $250,000 dollars when it was held in trust during his presidency. The Bushes also own a 1,600 acre ranch in Crawford, Texas.
The Bushes aren't the first presidential retirees to hit the talk circuit.
Former President Bill Clinton earned $5.7 million from speeches in 2008, with most of the cash coming from foreign companies, according to financials disclosed publicly by his wife, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Barbara Bush, George W.'s mother and a former first lady herself, has also addressed audiences for pay.
After he leaves office (he'll be re-elected in 2012), he will certainly have the opportunity to make some money on the speech circuit. I would think he'll get back into law ... perhaps a judge? ... or teaching.

he doesnt need republican support to get re-elected. the changing demos of this country with a split white vote will make it impossible for any republican outside of jindal or another non white to beat him.
and you are wrong when you say he wouldnt win re-election, if the election was today he would be re-elected. his intrade is at 60.1 for reelection in 12 and things are as bad as theyll get, yet he would still be re-elected if the election was today.
and as bad as the dem favorables in the senate and house are, the reps have worse favorables.
