But I just think that the Democrats and the Republicans are too busy fighting over issues that will eventually lead the once great USA further in the hole, if both parties don't tackle this economy problem head on.

In my humble opinion, the Democratic party has failed African Americans over and over, and yet many of my fellow people think that the Democratic Party has our best interest. All I have seen is the same old same old bull jive from them. Personal responsibility seems to be only for those who happen to be white, priviledged, and rich. If you are black and poor, we get a pass for dropping out of school, having kids that we can't afford to raise, and be allowed to use the race card when it benefits us as a race.

Democrats keep making promises that they can't keep, and when a racial matter occurs, then we see the Jesse Jacksons, Al Sharptons, and Maxine Waters coming out of their caves to fight for the racial injustices that seem to only benefit them rather than the so called black victims of those crimes.

Republicans will fight to defend the constitution, family values, religious freedom, support the military at any cost, and blame the Democrats for big government and huge deficits. But, on that same note they are not too concerned about having huge deficits to fund our military, and justify it by saying how the government's role is strictly to have a strong military to protect our borders according to the Constitution. They seem not so willing to support our country's future by having the same spending philosophy for educating our citizens because that would make government too big.

I see both parties pretty much the same now. Basically each party has spent us into an inevitable economic collapse, both parties won't accept responsibility for getting us in this huge deficit, but the finger pointing keeps going on, and the back and forth blame game is all that each party has been able to show the average American voter, who simply want to support his or her family, and be able to retire with dignity.
Thank you for saying this. I am glad to see some blacks calling the Democratic party on its BS. When white people do it, we always get blasted as racist.

I agree with most of what you're saying. The only thing I'd nitpick is education spending. A lot of it is going to teachers' pensions and administration, not to the classroom.

And I think education spending is like a lot of things relating to money...once you go beyond a certain minimum, more spending doesn't necessarily produce better results. Republicans understand the concept, although they often cave to the demands of the teachers' unions. Democrats don't get it. But as you point out, it's in their financial interest not to understand.

But both parties are definitely responsible for the financial mess we're in. Ultimately the citizens of America are responsible. However, we really don't want to make the sacrifices necessary to set our country on the right track. The rich don't want to pay higher taxes. And many of the poor and middle class think the government owes them welfare, a middle class lifestyle in retirement (even though they saved little on their own while working), etc. And many seem to think health care should be "free" even though 2/3 of us are overweight and 1/3 are obese. 20% still smoke. If this is what our collective lifestyle looks like, we are going to go broke as a nation trying to pay for all of this.

It's too bad the Bible belters took over the Republican party. I think they'd get a lot more votes if they'd just drop the religious fanaticism.

How refreshing!

I too, am black, and I share your sentiments. I get nauseated each time I see the opportunists Jesse or Al being paraded on the so-called news. It’s sad that more black voters don’t use their heads and dump the Democrats. Sadly, old habits are hard to break. I became an Independent in 2006, after I finally saw the light.

When I think of the blind loyalty most blacks have for the Democrats, Harriet Tubman comes to mind -- "I freed a thousand slaves. I could have freed a thousand more, if only they knew they were slaves."

Thank you, and I guess black folk like us have to gently educate our people without sounding like sell outs if you know what I mean. At my church during our sunday school class, we touch on politics sometimes, and I usually gently give them my spin on how I see the democratic party, and even though most of my sunday school classmates agree with me, they just can't shake changing parties, it's almost as if, leaving the democratic party means that they are turning their backs on helping the cause or something.

You didn't leave the Democrat party as I didn't leave the Republican party. The parties left us.

The Democratic party was taken over by lunacy in 1963 with LBJ and has been hell bent for total control socialism ever since. The GOP died with Reagan and is now back in the hands of the country club RINO's. Either currupt or fundamentalist nuts.
Today they are just two differnt parties with twin logic. Rule by emotion, maintain fervor with the general population, all the while seeking total power.

Best example today with the RINOs and DINO's is the lovely name in government called Czars. So, I gather now we are old Russia? Another example is the Joseph Gobbels media style we see today.
Reading his principals almost reminds me of all networks on both sides of the isle.
Joseph Goebbels - Propaganda Principles

Nah! You did not leave your party your party left you.
Folks tell me I waste my vote with the Libertarian ballot, at least I can look in the mirror and know I am no longer wasting my country.

I think many of us are sick of the insider politics in WA from both parties. We are sick of being taxed to death, seeing our retirement vanish, utilities rise, health care cost explode even with this insane bill that was passed, giving terrorists more rights than Americans and finally watching the fleecing of my country by Mexico. I will be leaving the republican party if they gain power and then start the hand wringing and reaching across the isles and not standing up to the corruption even within their ranks. I see a third party evolving and hopefully soon before we see our country vanish.

I left the republican't party decades ago because they've been lying the whole time.

Ike was the last honest republican I can recall.

I see a third party evolving too. I just hope it's one that will truly represent the principles of our Constitution.
