But a tea party visitors' guide for those attending Saturday's Restoring Honor rally on the National Mall has locals tittering and tweeting about how some anti-government activists view the seat of their government.
It describes the city's predominantly African-American and low-income neighborhoods as ones to avoid and recommends Metro lines that it says are safe (Red) and ones that are not (Green and Yellow).
There's nothing bad about this advice. Many DC neighborhoods are not safe. The only issue I have is that individual Metro lines should not be considered unsafe in totality. It all depends on which station you get off. If you know which neighborhoods to avoid, then you can derive from that which Metro stations to not get off at. All of the lines have unsafe stops. Avoiding one in totality does not make much sense, but I can see how a visitor may be better off safe than sorry.
I doubt anything would happen to them. This whole issue could have been dealt with more diplomatically by GB and Co.
I disagree. I think people would get robbed. I do think people who don't know Dc would realize how quick it goes from yuppified to dangerous. Dc was the murder capital for a long time. There's dangerous baltimore criminals who are scared to death of DC boys.
I've been in some very sketch neighborhoods in DC, even when my kids were little. Of course, I'm not afraid of poor people of any race. I used to be a visitng nurse, and I've been in sketch neighborhoods in several cities.
I was glad to teach self-defense classes in the kind of neighborhoods you're talking about. Especially clinics for women. We were never afraid to go to do our thing, just like as a visiting nurse you were never afraid to go and do yours. But you, like my group, knew where you were going. You knew why you were going, and I would guess that you had a plan or set of goals just like us. Not everybody knows or has a reason to be in these places. People have a right to know what the risks might be if they end up in the wrong place, especially if they are not familiar with the area, don't know how to get out of an area if they end up there by mistake, etc.
If I had a dime every time a black person told someone in my presence about a neighborhood they didn't want to end up in, I'm not saying I would be rich, but I know I would have a lot of dimes. Common sense is never a bad idea.

EXACTLY. theres a difference when you know where your going then when your a wandering tourist.

And your diplomacy could get someone killed. Are you looking for work in your capacity as a visiting nurse?
Makes about as much sense as the things you are saying.
These are directions to the event for anyone interested. No one is saying that people can't go to any other destinations that they chose to. And nothing says they HAVE to take this advice.

Not to be disrespectful, but you're not being logical. DC is not a safe place to be if you don't know where you're going. Crime is real in this town. The locals know it. Tourists should know it too. Don't candy-coat it.
The utter stupidity of these race threads are amazing.
