An imperfect comparison, yes, but it's all I've got.
smacking my head--???--the 10th anniversary is 2011. I have obviously lost my mind and no wonder--too many issues examined too intensely 24/7--I'm in Atlanta and we are still --eternally--conscious of civil rights--which is necessary, but mixing civil rights, Tea Parties, terrorism and gay marriage, relgious freedom together is mind impairing in my case. Grateful that the oil spill in the Gulf seems to be on the mend...

Divine Intervention from a Higher Power--I think that is what is needed.

I think some of it has to do with it being a slow news week, with congress out of session.

We remember, so it doesn't happen again.

Well said!

We remember Katrina so there will be no more hurricanes?

I think I'll go sit over there and try to remember some cancer.

We remember the people who were affected by it. Remembering Pearl Harbor does not mean there will be no more wars!

You would think that idea would be common sense...

Katrina, like 9/11, was one of the major events that shaped this nation's modern history. The media has long been given to commemorating these kinds of events in 5-year increments (including of course the 1st anniversary). It's just the way we do things. If you don't want to hear about it feel free to go outside for a jog.

Over 235 people died in Mississippi, and all counties in Mississippi were declared disaster areas, 49 for full federal assistance.
