Why can’t and don’t people approach the topic of race as they do the topic of politics? I mean…..when I have a debate or discussion about race it’s no different for me than a discussion about politics and parties. Do you dislike or hate someone because they are Liberal or conservative? I know I certainly do not. It seem that people feel that one cannot talk about race without assuming that someone (usually the black person) in the debate is angry and full of hate.
I certainly can’t speak for black people but most of the black people that I know approach the topic of race no differently than whites approach the topic of politics or the divisions that exist between conservatives and liberals. I enjoy white people and their company just as much as I enjoy black people and their company. Most whites I meet like me and I like them, just like liberals and conservatives often like people who are of a different political ideology.
Why can’t people discuss race as freely as they discuss politics?
what's to discuss ??.. Race is simply colour of skin. colour of skin cannot offend. colour of skin doesn't vilify the rich or give to the poor. colour of skin ain't going to get your country our of debt. it ain't going to cause economic growth. its just a f***ing colour. if you want to discuss colours, go back to nursery.
I am white and have no issue discussing race. I am a vet and lived 24/7 with blacks Hispanics and Asians.
When I take issue is when some white person who has never lived anywhere but a college dorm with another race tries to explain what black people are really like to me. Or how I owe someone something because of slavery. No I don't.
My best friend in the service was a black man from a scrub of swamp way down south. When we first met
I could barely understand a word he said.
2 years later I brought his body home for burial. He was a brave and honorable man. He was my best friend. I was the only white man at that funeral and I was made to feel welcome.
Today people feed on the race issue. They shove it in your face. You need to feel guilty.
Well I disagree with slavery of any kind. I refuse to be held slave to the past, or to the misdeeds of others.
I refuse to be lectured to by someone who once knew a few minorities in college, or someone who took a sociology class and some how they became an expert on race relations.
I never met a black person who felt I owed them anything but the same respect I would show anyone else.
Yes you have your Jessie Jacksons and others who manipulate the masses.
In fact I never met a black person who wanted to sit down and just have a chat about race. Most would rather talk about family, sports or current events.
I wish people would discuss race more openly to be honest. I think there's too much closet racism and pussyfooting around issues in order to be PC. Some of these subjects/issues need to be discussed openly and frankly.

Partly because many people feel like if we didn't talk about race so much, people would begin looking at it as no different from different hair color. I'd loving nothing more than if race were viewed as nothing more noticeable than different hair color. I'm not sure if ceasing talking about it will result in that or not though.

Have you seen the threads here? Calling liberals unhinged, psycho and libretard is par for the course. There is a lot of hatred for liberals, progressives and democrats. It is no better than race discussions - downright impossible to have a productive convo in many circles.

You have not really watched us all discuss politics have you, sites such as this have rules, on the street it does not go as well, and it going to get far worse. I do not disagree that race relations are important and should be dealt with in an open mined and open handed way, but right now there is a far more pressing issue to deal with, the crazy man in the Whitehouse.

People are people and like what they like. The problem is we all dont like the same things. Blacks have the right to be angry about along list of things, mainly discriminating systems that dont reward hard work, but instead reward race. Some of the problems blacks suffer from is their (our) own doing, but some of it is systematic set up by Jews and old money whites. People like to act like it doesnt exist, but it does. I could list tons of examples and someone would dispute it and say what I am saying is not true.
First, how many people REALLY want to discuss race?
Second, how many people REALLY want to discuss race HONESTLY?
Third, most White Americans can talk about race but very few have experienced the level of racism many Black Americans have faced. In others word in most cases White Americans talk about race from the perspective of the racism from the outside looking in. Most Black Americans talk about racism from the inside looking out. The two often completely different perspectives make common ground often difficult to find.
Fourth many White Americans are extremely reluctant about discussing the history of race and how it affects the current dynamics of race in America today. Some don’t even want to know the history. Many White Americans believe these past events have no effect on the social and economic conditions Black Americans face today.
Fifth even if race and racism are discussed hardly any White Americans want to discuss the issue of White Privilege and how it affects the social and economic dynamics in America today.
This is your answer, OP. VERY spot on.
Edit: crap...just realized this is thread is over 6 years old...I guess the topic is still relevant, though.
