The mosque developers are tax deadbeats.

Sharif El-Gamal, the leading organizer behind the mosque and community center near Ground Zero, owes $224,270.77 in back property tax on the site, city records show.

El-Gamal's company, 45 Park Place Partners, failed to pay its half-yearly bills in January and July, according to the city Finance Department.

The delinquency is a possible violation of El-Gamal's lease with Con Edison, which owns half of the proposed building site on Park Place. El-Gamal owns the other half but must pay taxes on the entire parcel.

All of this hysteria over the mosque feels like a religious war against Muslims.

What hysterical about pointing out financial problems of someone who supposedly has the means of constructing a $100 million mosque, but can't afford to pay NYC taxes? Wonder if we'll find out he also owes NYS and the IRS?

Hmmm, sounds more like the political fist of Islam.

It feels like a witch hunt. It amounts to hysteria because the mosque builders are criticized for every little thing they do.

Liberals have waged a war against Christianity in this country but bent over backwards to protect Islam. What gives?

I wouldn't call not paying taxes (which potentially violates their lease from Con Edison for the building at 45 Park) a little thing. Either it shows financial instability, which should be vetted before giving them the ok to build, or a disregard for the law.

I'm not sure what you're referring to, but how have liberals prevented any Christian churches from building a church wherever its legal to do so? That's the equivalent argument you need to make.

Right, but you wouldn't even be talking about it if there wasn't a cultural backlash against Muslims. This has a lot more to do with a culture war than whether or not the builder has paid his taxes.
