Conflict of interest scandal brewing for top aides in Arizona governor’s office

Recent local and national media reports have revealed that two of Arizona Governor Jan Brewer’s top advisors have lobbying connections to the Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), a private prison management company which would benefit financially from an influx of prisoners who were turned over to the federal government as illegal immigrants.

I am totally against illegal immigration, but can't we ever have a politician, other than a handfull, that are not in the pockets of some special interest group? This info really detracts from the Governor's credibility for her cause.

why would we put the criminals in jail? they would just use more tax dollars than they already do. punish those who hire, and rent to them. the problem will go away on their own if they can't find a job, or a place to live.

I saw her debating Terry Goddard last night & when the reporters asked her about her comments regarding illegals doing be-headings she got flustered & got up & left.
If she can't handle a little press pressure & reacts like she did, she don't deserve to be in the position.
The only reason she became popular anyway is her stance on illegal immigration, other than that the woman is lame.

Another one whose ass I hope gets nailed to the wall.

The CCA, by the way, are the same incompetent and poorly run prisons that allowed murderers to escape, creating a nationwide manhunt and possibly 2 more murders.

"State leaders in recent years have pushed for more privatization and have blocked efforts to regulate the industry, which has invested heavily in local lobbying and contributed to political campaigns."

Sounds like you're talking about Barack Obama.

Do you show similar outrage for the top advisors of Obama's that have been tied to lobbying or stood to gain personally by passing his agenda? Just askin'..........

The fact that the above posters are happy that an elected official is affiliated with people you feel did something wrong is a show of your true character .

And one of president skippy's top supporters is SEIU, which probably benefits from illegals.....

What's your point again?

So far two posters on this thread were compelled by forces beyond their control to use Obama's name in a thread that has zip, nada, zero nothing to do with the immediate subject. Too funny. You guys are so stuck in one mode. Oops..make that three. Stay on topic fools.

I don't actually see the problem here. I don't see that there is any way of escaping lobbying. We would be considered "citizen advocates" which is another way of calling ourselves "lobbyists". We just do it for free.

There are sleazy lobbyists who use bribes and some that actually believe in their cause and want to take their issue and present it to elected officials.

We do want to incarcerate illegal immigrants and it just so happens we have an influx in Arizona. Naturally, the CCA would benefit, with or without a lobbyist.

It's really the same as a good or bad earmark, IMO. Good, sound and beneficial infrastructure is a good earmark. A huge baseball field with all the amenities, that are not necessary to even play a game of ball, is a bad earmark.
