Why can't the jumper be held responsible for her car damages? And should his hospital bills be waived also? Why is this young man entitled to all these freebies just because he was unhappy with his life? Maybe his depression was due to mental issues. Or maybe it was because he was an English major that couldn't find the kind of work he wanted.

Anyway, what's pathetic is most of the New York Post articles on this situation cover the owner of the Charger instead of the problems of the young man. It's all just sensationalist journalism, and making news out of stories that ought not to be news stories at all. Geesh.
That's typical of the New York Post. It's the city's own version of the Enquirer.

I am really sure he was thinking "gosh, let's see how much attention I can get by jumping 30 what ever floors"
LOL at the last line. Getting attention after you're dead isn't worth much.

But there is some truth, IMO, in that some suicides are meant to make a statement. Here in NJ we've had a rash of suicides this year wherein people chose to end their lives by stepping in front of commuter trains. While this choice probably has a lot to do with a 99.9% guarantee of death, I believe there is also a statement being made by knowing that you've at least temporarily disrupted the lives of hundreds of people and left an engineer with some trauma to carry around for the rest of his or her days. It says, "By my death, someone will know I was here, that I existed." People who jump where other people will see them/be impacted by them (as opposed to jumping off a bridge over water, for example) are doing the same thing. This is not meant to be a simple black-and-white statement. The mind of someone who is ending his or her life is in a different place from the average person, obviously

Suicide is a selfish act.
However, one even thinking about suicide is ill.
It is a medical condition that sometimes can be treated w/medications.
These people get consumed w/ONLY thinking of a 'way out' because they believe there is no other way.
This is caused by chemical imbalances in the brain.

Before we think of suing them, hopefully they can be treated medically.
Jumping to the ' let's sue and/or punish' first is to harsh.
