Beckers love to say "prove him wrong." Well, this Jesuit priest not only proves him wrong, but also proves him ignorant...
Quote:
Beck: I think that it is much more of a theological question that he is a guy who understands the world through liberation theology, which is oppressor and victim....That is a direct opposite of what the gospel is talking about...It's Marxism disguised as religion
Quote:
the liberation theologian doesn't see himself or herself as victim; rather proponents call us to see how the poor are marginalized by society, to work among them, to advocate on their behalf, and to help them advocate for themselves. It has nothing to do with seeing yourself as victim. It is, like all authentic Christian practices, "other-directed."
...
It also sees the figure of Jesus Christ as the "liberator," who frees people from bondage and slavery of all kinds. So, as he does in the Gospels, Christ not only frees people from sin and illness, Christ also desires to free our fellow human beings from the social structures that keep them impoverished. This is this kind of "liberation" that is held out. Liberation theologians meditate on Gospel stories that show Christ upending the social structures of the day, in order to bring more--uh oh--social justice into the world. Christians are also asked to make, as the saying goes, a "preferential option for the poor."
...
Glenn Beck's opposition to "social justice" and "liberation theology" is all the more difficult to understand because of his cloaking of himself in the mantle of devout believer. "Look to God and make your choice," he said during his rally on Sunday.
Too bad whenever people have tried to liberate the poor, tens of millions have died and also when the poor have been "liberated" there was no such thing as freedom and each state was also officially atheist. Hmmmmm. Very unChrist-like IMO

In your opinion. But, even so, does that negate Christ's intentions?
glenn beck is an entertainer, like rachael maddow. they are not to be taken seriously. however, what you fail to understand is that many christians don't mind helping the poor. they just don't feel the need for rich a-hole middle men like politicians.

OK, Beckers, go to it. Prove the good Reverend wrong...
Liberation thelogists that Beck is talking about uses government to "liberate" the poor. This always leads to more poverty and often death.
There is not one passage in the Bible that would lead one to think Jesus ever wanted or supported government in anyway. Not one. More than likely, Jesus was an anarchist.
And your post doesn't prove Beck wrong. This guy just has a different opinion.
FYI, Never call someone "the Reverend". It is inappropo.

Yes. Because Christ didn't approve of genocide especially when it was in the name of the poor and especially when those same people blamed religion for the ills of the world . After all, wasn't it Marx that said religion is the opiate of the masses?
So far, no one has disputed the fact that Beck doesn't know his a$$ from a hole in the ground when it comes to Liberation Theology....
