Regardless of who you think would eat them, it is clear that they were brought here by the US. Dumb move.
Same in Australia - I'm not sure whether they were actively "introduced" officially but the fox and rabbit definitely were and that was ALSO a very dumb move.
Carp are NASTY - AFAIK only the Asians will eat them.
They're a scourge in Australian rivers too.
I used to be a carp catching machine and a friend who could always catch channel cats even when others couldn't always took them off my hands. He tried and tried to make my method work but he never realized that carp are suckers and can't suck those big wads of food in so they stay away from them.
Dean said that if you pressure cooked carp it tasted about like salmon and his wife and boys liked it also.
That's okay - I did say AFAIK - In Australia pretty much the only ones who will eat them are Asians. I doubt they're a commercially viable catch here though.
I thought this was going to be a short funny thread but guess what President Obama did today?
He named an Asian Carp Czar!!!
I kid you not.
"The White House has tapped a former leader of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Indiana Wildlife Federation as the Asian carp czar to oversee the federal response to keeping the invasive species out of the Great Lakes."

Another job saved or created? This is carp pellets.
I know Asian carp are a very serious problem but don't we already have enough federal and state agencies that deal with fish and wildlife to handle this?
What is this, czar #41 or something like that? How much is this guy getting paid? Is there a border czar for the non-fish invaders?
Yes. I don't know if you realize this or not but this is a very big problem.
If the waterway is shut down it will put more people out of work from one industry.
If they do not nail the Asian carp and it gets into the lake it will harm the tourist industry.
It is not as though fish & wildlife experts have not been addressing the problem. Look into this new czar's background and though he has a few years with wildlife agencies and you will see that he is not a "fish guy" but rather a professional bureaucrat who before was in tourism, just another organizer.
