Answer: You are oppressed. Why must property be acquired? Why must food be purchased instead of being grown for your own consumption? Why must you give up your time so someone else can accumulate more profit?
As long as capitalism and money rule our lives, we will never be free. Ever thought about a life without markets? A life without government? Capitalism cannot survive without government repressing its people. Government makes laws to protect the wealthy elite and give them license to repress citizens and to destroy nature.
Government protects private property through the use of terror against its citizens. The police serve the interests of the government, which in turn, serves the wishes of the capitalist ruling class. The police. The FBI. The US military. They serve one master and it's not YOU or ME.
Democrats. Republicans. Tea Party people. Liberals. Conservatives. Progressives. They have no answers for our nation or humanity. They all worship the market dictatorship and the police state.
The bottom line is that you are not free. You never will be free. Denial and delusion are the only ways to cope today.
In that regards, as long as civilized society has been around - we've all been slaves to each other. As long as civilization has been around, we've had people who excel in various tasks. You had the blacksmiths, the seamstresses, the farmers, etc. Whether the exchange of goods and services involves money (as is prevalent today) or bartering, we've never been truly free to be 100% independent of society.
But I'm sure there's a family out there who does everything completely on their own from growing food to making glass out of sand for mason jars to spinning cotton into fabric. However, should that family have one iota of products or services rendered to them from an outside source, then they would be indebted to that person or company - and therefore not 100% free.

Yeah we all know that. That's why I am a financial libertarian. I don't believe in the income tax, property tax, or credit cards or loans. If we had a true free market with a gold standard and no private federal reserve, we wouldn't be debt slaves to the system. I've dabbled in communism before, and it's a pretty stupid theory that will NEVER work. It will replace one tyranny with another, worse one
