I live in Murray, KY. The town size is exactly 10 square miles. I am a fatso and even I can walk it. There are 16,000 people within the town plus 10,000 students at Murray State University. We had an "on call" bus/transit service for many years, that caters to those who are handicapped and/or don't have their own vehicle. It's a really helpful service and they still perform the on call services. Well we got offered a few million of your stimulus tax dollars and the people at the the MCTA thought it would be a great idea to set up a route system within Murray and their 10 square miles, purchase a "trolley" type bus and build a $1.8 million building. Total money from Obama and his "recovery" money: $3.4 million. On any given day, you can follow any bus on their route (there are 4 routes) and you will see MAYBE one person onboard...the driver. You will see the buses stop at their stops and wait for no one to get on. This has been over a year or so with no improvement in ridership. I just want to thank the American taxpayers (myself included) for giving us something we didn't need, although it gives the locals something to laugh about. If we are in for $3.4 million in our little town, how many other USELESS projects are running out there, funded with OUR money?

Sounds like the city authorities need to learn when to say no... grants and funding can be turned down you know. It isnt a requirement it is taken.

Maybe they should follow calif's lead by baracading all your thru streets with conc. barriers so you must ride the trolly. that's how they forced em to use BART. I saw those barriers thy were littered with hubcaps and mufflers and such. the gov builds all this crap we dont want and seem puzzles we won't use it, now free money, thats another story. so sad we elect these idiots

I could see them spending maybe $200K on purchasing new buses for their old system of on-call, but no!!! They had to go for the whole ball of wax. Hell, spend the $3.4 million and pave some of the freaking roads.

There will be more bus ridership when unemployment hits harder there and gas prices quadruple.

I wish Congress would just stimulate itself and leave us alone.

But then they get dragged through the mud and other fundings are "held up" or "withdrawn".

Just look at Texas and Fed money. Perry said no to the stimulus part for unemployment for P/T workers and also said no to Race to the Top.

Texas gets dragged through the mud because we said no to Fed money with strings attached. Now this latest Fed bill has a special "Texas amendment" just for us and none in Congress thought twice about it as they passed the bill.
