Treat all income the same. Tax all income from all sources including wages, bonuses, inheritances, lottery wins, and dividends. Subtract an amount equal to the 90th percentile and assess the rest at a rate that will operate the government and pay down the deficit in 10 years.

Apply countervailing tariffs to level the playing field and count any income derived from overseas investment at twice the normal rate.

Tax business incomes after all the costs expensed, including dividends, are deducted. Then take the deductable and tax the rest as if they were the ordinary citizens they claim to be.

Eisenhower refused to cut a 90+% tax rate on incomes over 300k back in his day because he wanted us to pay off our war debts. Could it be that perhaps the greatest Republican president of the last century NOT be elected dogcatcher in his party today?

Yea..it could be. He certainly couldn't run for president in todays Repub party.

I could support President Eisenhower. I could not, and have not, supported any of the Republican Candidates since.

LOL. He had an (R) at the end of his name....let's not pretend you would have voted for him.

There are republicans running around to the left of some of the democrats and vice versa because left of center in one state is practically right wing in another.

Consider Sebelius and Moore from Kansas.

The problem with labels and straight party voting is that it makes for bad choices. (Hey look how many people though Bush was still doing fine at the end of his presidency.) Want further proof? Watch people switching parties to keep their seats...the Dems got a few Republicans with a (D) in the previous election cycle and the opposite occurs too.

What if we cut bloated social programs and military funding (pull military back from all foreign posts and eliminate SS, dramatically cut medicare, medicaid, food stamps, UI) instead of stealing money from people who worked hard enough to be successful?

There is no reason to increase anyone's taxes. We already pay way too much. The solution is to cut government, and cut it big. We should reduce the federal government by 40 - 50%.
What in the world would we cut in the government to get that 40-50%? The biggest discretionary spending we have is military, but people on the right wing seem to think that big, bloated complex is off-limits for budget cuts. Why not- why is big government in some areas is worth-while, but in other areas (education, social security) not worthy?

The Right Wing would gladly remove our Social Insurance system and place all of us at the mercy of their sacred market. Many on the right have large financial interests in the Defense Contracting industry and a big military effectivly increases their personal profits.

God forbid we place everyone at the mercy of their own savings. What a novel concept - let someone actually take care of themselves?
