I've got to say Mullah Omar and his colleagues have beaten two superpowers in their time.
Whatever one thinks or feels about the Taliban, their ability to resist and repel is mightily impressive.

I think rumours of Mullah Omars demise were premature.
It appears that the man, like Osama Bin Laden, has managed to evade the invaders.
Regardless of whether he is alive or dead, the Taliban resistence since 2001 is highly impressive given the range of forces and equipment set against them.

Only because both super powers showed restraint and did not unleash their arsenals upon Afghanistan. Maybe we should finish what the USSR started. They want nukes in the Middle east, deliver them to them. Problem is they will detonate upon receipt.
No one wins against Afghanistan. The terrain is too inhospitable for modern machinery.
Obama doubling down here is a big mistake, but the Dems painted themselves into this corner with the whole "Bush picked the wrong country" talk when they were trying to seperate themselves from Iraq's toll during the 2006 election.
We should have left Afghanistan before we left Iraq. Iraq at least has some potential to become an ally in the future. Afghansiatn will return to Taliban and tribes.

This.
They resisted the French and won
They resisted the British and won
They resisted Alexander the great and won.
They resisted the Soviets and won
And they're now resisting america and are winning.
Settle down Francis. The Taliban have only been in existence since 1991.
They (Afghans) resisted Alexander the Great...and LOST. They resisted the Aryan's...and LOST, but gained Pashto and Dari languages.
They fought the Ghaznavids, the Ghorids, the Timurads, and the Mongols and LOST.
The fought the British the first time, and LOST (as well as the 2nd time). They fought the Russian's...and LOST.
They've lost over and over again, with invaders and conquerors coming and going over the last 2500 years in recorded history.
Please, the PR game is not where you need to be. Your post should be in Fantasy.
Britain lost Afghanistan in 1842 - got their arses kicked.
Soviets got their arses kicked in 1989.
The USA has had it's arse kicked repeatedly since 2001.
Alexander?
He lost an arm in Afghanistan - a victory in itself
