Burning old books because you can't read them anymore is fine. Its when you burn a book because you don't like whats in it, that I generally have a problem with.
If it is offensive to you,why keep it?
I read(online, didn't want to be on any more watchlists) 'The Turner Diaries' to see what all the hullabaloo was about.
If I had bought it I certainly wouldn't keep it.

Exactly right. You and I don't agree on much; but on this point, we do! Good for you.

I would like to think we are above reacting to a bible burning, i don't see where doing such a thing does anybody any good, personaly it seems childish.

Yet another good point.

Besides this whole thing is stupid. What does it accomplish but to rub salt in wounds. This so-called pastor needs to read the parts of scripture that deal with vengeance. One verse that comes to mind is "Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord" (may not be exact ... I don't have my Bible at my fingertips, and I cannot either give you the reference; but that is pretty close).

Lots of people who can't afford those books. Generally, when I'm done with one I turn it into my local library. They will either give them to prisoners, or some unfortunate family who is in need.

Instead of burning the Quran, perhaps the National Endowment for the Arts, and taxpayers, could fund "artwork" in the form of "Pizz Mohammad"

We could see if the Religion of Peace would tolerate what Christians endured when "Pizz Christ" won a "Visual Arts" award

There's a difference in our modern politics between 'freedom of speech' and 'cultural insensitivity.' Burning Bibles, which have been used by white males for the exploitation of all non-white males is 'freedom of speech' and is 'throwing of the shackles of outdated values and oppression.' Burning Korans (however it's spelled) is culturally insensitive, closed-minded, hate-mongering, and racists. This is America! Know the difference between the two!

Okay, now that it's been said, I guess anyone has the right to burn anything they rightfully own, including book (local safety fire-codes not withstanding.) The content of such books is irrelevant. I mean, isn't that the definition of 'equality' as well as 'Separation of Church and State?' However, the sentiments in the first paragraph I believe have been gaining ground since the 'Politically Correct 90's.' It would seem that the trend might be reversing slowly but surely, considering all it's opposition and ironies. Until then, PC is pretty much the 'State Religion.'

Now, have I ever read the Qu'ran? No! Have I voiced negative opinions about it? No! I have nothing to go on. I have heard and seen reports about what some do in the name of the Qu'ran and have spoken against such actions and the perpetrators.

I have read the Bible, cover to cover. I see no correlation to Biblical texts and the acts of Jim Jones, David Koresh, Jimmy Swagart as well as the other infamous perpetrators which the left wing bases it's opinions on.
So I would expect the general public to have a 'ho-hum' reaction to Bible burnings.

this is an invalid comparison. books getting burnt in a fire isn't the same as willfully burning books as a symbolic act to denounce or protest against the information contained within them.
