(My comments on the topic)

I just wonder, what does the legislation actually say that would promote the word "Wealthy"?
Why would anyone not support tax cuts at all? So what if they are wealthy, it seems to be discrimination of classes.

UPDATE 1-Top US House Republican hints at tax compromise | Reuters

Its a crying shame that some people aren't happy unless they have taken something away from a class of people who have done well for themselves.
Its a bigger shame that these same people expect to be treated like royalty for being less productive and expect better treatment for less effort. You folks out there who wish to end tax cuts for a group of people because they have earned more than you are immature adults who were never taught the value of "self". IMO, you are the same little child who cries on the floor because your sibbling got a cookie for a pretty drawing. Not only is it "I want one too" but you won't feel good till you have MORE than the folks you vilify.
In my book those people are worse than the "filthy rich". You'll never drag a rich man down, and, being self-centered and greedy will not result in anything more than what they already are, poor cry babies.

Grow up and stop blaming your failures on successful people. If you want to punish the one who is responsible for your condition then walk over to the mirror and start there!

Very true and exactly why the filibuster needs to be done away with. It's simply an in house rule for the senate and it isn't in the constitution or anything. The problem is neither party wants to be rid of it as both like to be able to block everything and use the lame excuse that "the reason we never do anything is because of the other guy filibustering". The senate can change it's in house procedural rules with just 50 votes plus the VP's vote so kill the filibuster and let the majority rule. If voters don't like how the majority rules then vote them out.

Of course the politicians (of both parties) love having a ready go to excuse for not doing their jobs so I doubt that will happen.

A lot of the liberal people I know are jealous of rich people.

They will vote to increase the tax on the wealthy even if they have no idea (a) what their tax rate is, and (b) what their tax rate ought to be.

All they know is that if they are wealthy, they need to give more money to the government.

Lets see, now. That article was about John Boehner and he just happens to be in the House where there is no such thing as a filibustering so he can't pull that off. Any time Nasty Nancy has wanted to pass something she just holds a vote and tells them (his party) how to vote and even the blue dogs are afraid to cross her. I wonder if many of them will return next year.

Jill, I watched that show today and I figured out what Boehner was talking about. He merely said that he would vote that way if there was no other way to go but he wanted the cuts to remain for all of us. Not all the things that were in that article were what I heard, but then who knows with Bob Schieffer in control of the interviewing.

That's funny, a lot of the liberal people I know ARE rich people.

All they know is that since they are wealthy, they can afford to give more money to the government than poor people who struggle from paycheck to paycheck.

Great post Our tax system is used by are so called leaders as a weapon of division, poor against the rich and the left against the right. It is funny how this ignorant ploy works year after year, you have one who exclaims I will lower your taxes vote for me. And then the other runs on I will raise the taxes on the rich vote for me.
I have mentioned many times ad nausem that the graduated tax system is right out of Marx's manifesto. So I find it ironic that {R} are screeching the word socialist at the {D}s and have hardly lifted a finger to change the tax code. And they will remain closet Marxist because they know they have a popular wedge issue.
Myself, I ignore a neo con that wants to keep taxes in place or lower them, what I want them to do is run on changing the tax system and get out of the closet of Marxism.
Your last point of if you want to find out where trouble comes from in your life go look in the mirror is one of my life motto's. It took many years to learn that one but it is one of the truths that I am glad I embraced. I call it manning up and stop being a baby and blaming others.

Funny that some who claim to be so concerned about the middle class and excoriate the Obamas for being somehow ostentatious voted to keep these tax cuts for everybody in a time of need.

Extending the tax cuts for the richest is part of the republican economic plan wich also includes new and large tax cuts for the wealthty that would increase the budget deficits while doing little to support the economy and sharp spending cuts that would depress the economy even further while doing little to improve budget prospects fewer jobb and larger deficits is the republican roadmap for the future.

MORE ON OBAMA'S SMALL BUSINESS "JOBS" BILL - Nealz Nuze on boortz.com

Maybe because it's essentially a $30B bailout by another name? Or, maybe because the taxpayer is left holding the bill if the small business goes t*ts up?

The Dems are using a playbook right out of the 1990's - the Clinton era. Back then - CEO's of the Fortune 500 were the only dudes making $200K + per year, women's salaries were nowhere near what they are today. This is all about "gin up the base in a class war".

The Dems have spent decades indoctrinating the masses against "the evil RICH". It's never occurred to these geniuses to change the tax tables. Very few would object to the Billionaires and Multi-Multi Millionaires paying a bit more ... but NOOOOOOO - they are sticking with the figure the lemmings understand. $200,000. They are living in the past and refusing to see the realities of the last 20 years of income growth - people who earn $200,000 a year are often small business people who file their taxes as personal income or middle class couples with educations but not what any of us (with a brain) would consider RICH. Big, Big difference between a small business owner or double income family and a mega rich CEO or hedge fund manager ... but, it's way too complicated to explain to the envy class and those who pay no taxes at all.

Austan Goolsbee wrote a paper published in 1997 that confirmed that when tax rates on raised on the $200K bunch (at that time the CEO's of companies) then tax revenue fell by 20% the next year.

In this particular case - that means that tax revenue will fall probably more than 20% in 2011 (election year for Obama) .... if I were the Republican leadership, I wouldn't protest it either. It's a death sentence for Democrats and Obama. It will surely mean a little short term pain for some but it may be time for a serious lesson to this country for those who did not live through the Carter years. The "new" Reagan could be Chris Christie, the governor of New Jersey ..... he is VERY impressive with what he is doing there. He certainly understands what is wrong in New Jersey and is a fiscal bulldog.

We are pretty desperate for a fiscal leader who is a bulldog that can focus on solutions. Time is running out for this country.
