Everyone is being super-vague. That's why I maintain that this whole "cut spending, cut taxes" thing is a farce. Yeah, it sounds real good, but is it really what our country needs or is it a way to get votes?

What specifically should be cut?

I find it interesting that the Constitutional scholars amongst us who clamor for reducing the Federal government to only those things desired by the Framers ignore the fact that one thing that the Framers were most unified on was a disdain for a standing military. Yet that is the paramount thing that they seem to want to protect.

Just FYI, of that big old government pie, if you exclude the military and cut out every single program in the Federal budget you get a whooping savings of 18%.

- Cut all the conferences at posh hotels that government agencies hold for employees.
- Cut the car fleets or buy only basic cars for government employees....government employees can live without power windows and sunroofs.
- Stop wasting millions on road signs stating that the stimulus is responsible for the specific project where the sign is posted.
- Cut half the TSA employees who stand around and do nothing (or in Atlanta's case, stand and flirt with each other trying to get an evening booty call).
- Cut all the spending to other countries on silly programs (like the couple of million just spent teaching African men how to wash their private parts).
- Go to a flat tax and cut most of the IRS
- Put Obama on a strict travel budget and limit his flits on Air Force One.

The list is endless...........so many ways to save money and slow spending.

How about we audit the federal reserve and see what all these crooked a--holes have been hiding. I bet there is no waste to be found there.

Cut all defense spending other than protecting US soil, cut social security, cut medicare, cut all foreign aid money, cut unemployment benefits to a three month maximum, and refuse to pay federal money to bailout any industry from here forward.

After that is done, we can re-evaluate the state of the country and make additional cuts from there.

For me it’s not so much eliminate, as it is reduce and remanage. I hate the present welfare system it’s to easy to manipulate and the proponents want it that way to show numbers.
People who have drug convictions with in a time frame should not be eligible. To many people are using welfare and food stamps for drugs.
To many people are milking the system by working under the table (drug sales included) or just hanging out.
People on welfare should be in a program that has a job bank. If any work is available and they refuse the job, they are eliminated from the welfare system. If the weeks wage is lower then the sum of the welfare pay then the difference should be supplemented.
Additional jobs could be added with the reduction of illegal workers. The UFW union set up a scam of a program to try to show that legal citizens were not willing to work farm jobs. They offered the jobs to people on unemployment who were making more then the UFW would pay and as a result would lose their unemployment benefits. What they didn’t do is offer the jobs to people on welfare and in homeless shelters or the like.
If the Unions were forced to offer the jobs and the people that had to take them the need for illegal workers would be eliminated
We also need to revamp Defense Spending. It make no sense that a solder stationed at a base with a mess hall has to carry an MRE food pack yet when the same solder is shipped into a combat area with a lest then sufficient helmet.
There is no good reason that stimulus money that was scheduled to build roads has $1000 dollar signs that say this road being built with stimulus money.
Our wonderful legislators that are telling us how hard they trying to cut spending while many flew individually on privet jets to France for the G8 summit.
