And when Dog the bounty hunter said it, he lost his show for a while. So, yes, everyone should be held to the same standard, especially if you have your own show.
So are you saying that it is okay that he said it?
Yes, it's okay that Bill Maher spoke a word that is generally considered offensive, because he did not use it as invective. The way he used it, if he'd written the word it would have been in quote-marks. He was talking about the word. Not using it offensively.

I'm sorry... but that makes no sense whatsoever.

Anytime you can use a word, and I can't, that's wrong.
I don't care about context. You can't see me, how do
you know what 'not' to say to offend me?
I'll tell you what. Anytime someone tells me what I can,
and can't say,THAT offends me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She called the person a ******. He stated that these people are effectively calling Obama a ******. He denounced the racist fringe that dislikes Obama. She egged the caller on to state that she should be okay with accepting racial epithets. Way different.
I'm Black, many of my friends are Black. This idea that ALL BLACK people use that word is absurd. Me and my Black friends are in a group of 4 guys who. We're ALL really close friends (same fraternity). We don't offended when the N word is used in certain contexts. If I said it in a harsh manner to my Black friend, he would beat me up. If our White friend says it in a joking manner, he would chuckle. It's not the word itself, it's the way you use it. It's like the F word. I don't know why so many people are obsessed about using this word. Go use it. Nobody cares. However, if you use it in the wrong context...you'll face the consequences like anyone else (Black or White).

C:It’s OK to say that word? S: It depends how it’s said. C:Is it OK to say that word? Is it ever OK to say that word? S: It’s — it depends how it’s said. Black guys talking to each other seem to think it’s OK.
Ok. Let me break it down for you. Dog the Bounty Hunter, is a guy that has his own show. He used the N word, and A&E took his show off of the air. Dr. Laura said it, and she lost her show. Maher said it, so there for he should lose his show. It makes no difference if he is an entertainer, a Dr. or a bounty hunter with his own show. He should not be treated differently because he's a liberal.

How did Dog the Bounty Hunter use the word? Did he call someone a N----?
I can pretty much use the words "d@go," "wop" and "guinea" without risk of offending somebody.
You generally cannot.
I see. I can use Mick and drunk, and
***** and Chief?
Oh, that is so uplifting.
Am I a Liberal now?
It's George Bush's fault.
Wow, that felt great!
