I laughed, but it's true. Some years ago there was a similar situation in Newark. A 15-year-old pregnant teenager was killed when police were chasing a stolen car loaded with teenagers. One of the kids shot at the police car and the cops shot back. The girl was hit and killed. It was 4 in the morning.
On one side you might think, "how sad, a life wasted," but the other side says, "how much of a life did this person have ahead to begin with if they were this stupid at 15?"

I think the kid knew exactly what he was doing when he became a criminal. He figured that crime paid better than anything else a 24 yr old kid could do. I have to wonder if anyone explained to the kid that those that live by the gun generally die by the gun.

Contrary to conventional wisdom sometimes the streets has a stronger hold on a young man's mind that is stronger than anything that than any parent can deal with.
Catch them before they are one year of age and you might have some hope of changing their lives. After that, it's iffy.
