It's interesting to see a recent Canadian take on the current condition of the United States:

Third world America: Collapsing bridges, street lights turned off, cuts to basic services: the decline of a superpower [Macleans magazine]

Quote:
Combined with recession job losses, there are now only as many private sector jobs as there were in early 1999, a decade ago, while the population continues to grow. And incomes stagnated for a full decade—the longest such period since the U.S. Census Bureau has been keeping track of household income.

Let's see who will be blamed for this one.

BTW: Ashtabula county is one of the poorest counties in Ohio. It's a rust belt county.

Socialism does not work. The socialist principles of the 20th Century destroyed the old America ( Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare, Aid to dependent children, public housing, food stamps).

The bank has been broken and despite massive taxes and even a large VAT tax, it is likely that the nation will be driven to hyperinflation and then insolvency. Thank you liberalism and Keynsian insanity.

America, after a brief period of chaos, will re-emerge as a nation. Liberalism and socialism will be recognized as insidious and disasterous insanity and fiscal discipline and order will be restored. A nation of 300 million will not fizzle from the planet. We will be wiser and will understand that nothing is really free.

What is Canada's system? And why does Canada do better than the US?

A quote from the OP's link:

Quote:
These cuts in infrastructure and education are more than just a temporary belt-tightening in response to a recession. They threaten long-term damage to American’s economic foundation—a foundation that has long been eroding.

My Canadian friend said its because both parties while fighting actually slowly work on compromising on bills. But he said the political fighting up there is just as bad as down here.

Well they should focus on all the infrastructure we built and rebuilt in Iraq and Afghanistan.
That's where the US infrastructure work is going on ..not in America.

Canada is much more protective of its industries than we are. For instance a certain amount of tv programs aired there have to be made in Canada, you can still find clothing (and well made stuff) produced there. They're also more restrictive in who can come into their country. You must either be well educated or have plenty of money, excepting some political refugees. They're not interested in anyone who will be a drain on society.

You're very correct HappyTexan. With all the money we spend both policing and rebuilding the world we could cut taxes in half and still have the best infrastructure, and military capability.

I agree to rebuilding what we broke..but we went beyond that and built new buildings..like a prison and convention center for example.
