A federal appellate court threw out Michigan's random drug testing law in 2003, saying it violated the constitutional ban against unreasonable search and seizure.
Quote:
In April 2000, U.S. District Court Judge Victoria Roberts issued a preliminary injunction against enforcement of the law. She wrote that drug testing an entire class of citizens simply because they are poor ""would be dangerously at odds with the tenets of our democracy."" In April 2003, the appeals court affirmed that decision.
Its testing them because they receive government money, which us tax payers are providing. They should be tested to ensure they are not spending goverment money on drugs. That simple. Taxpayers should not be paying drug dealers.

It's so easy. Set up centers in every region that give each person a complete physical, mental exam and blood test every 6 months. You have have drugs present in your system...BAM...you lose your benefits. You are physically able to work, but refuse, you lose your benefits. And yes, I know there are those who really need the help, but there are those who are scumbags (my brother) who drain the system. There HAS to be a way to weed out these people.

^^^^^I like this one^^^^^ with a six month waiting period after loosing your benifits.
You are physically able to work, but refuse, you lose your benefits.
I think this one can be tweeked a bit to avoid the scubbags from screeming discrimination or racism by stating that after two months of unemployment a manditory community service will be required; equal to 30 hours per week.
But you all know this plan would NEVER work because these benifits are what the Democratic party holds up front like a carrot to these "VOTERS"
"Vote for me and I'll give you some free stuff!" here is the picture they (Democratic Party) paint;

Using that same logic.....how about testing farmers? they get government money what about bankers? get the msg. Uh, drug DEALERS DON'T NEED WELFARE! they make enough money.
Of course. No way should the taxpayers have to go to work to support drug users who lay around doing nothing all day.
Welfare is one of the biggest causes of drug addition. Without the money handed to them, many of these losers would have to clean up and find a job. Also laying around 24-7 would get to be very boring and lead people to use drugs.
Actually, it is quite the opposite if people are working they won't have time or the energy to do drugs. If the little bit of money that they do get is cut off .....guess whose house will be broken into?
I agree drug testing should be mandatory. I'd even go as far as say any able bodied person be required to work as well as any felon conviction while on welfare or section 8 automatically be revoked.
That theory should work pretty well during a recession If able bodied non drug users can't get a job, what makes you think that a drug addict could?
Mandatory drug testing of welfare recipients has already been tried in Michigan, and found to be expensive and unconstitutional.
That's incongruous.
You said "Mandatory drug testing of welfare recipients"
and then you provide a link that says

Had you done your case law research you would know that 100% testing is not unconstitutional.
Naturally, as everyone would expect, Michigan botched it (just like they botch everything else) and was only conducting random tests. Had they written the law to require 100% testing of all recipients instead of random testing they wouldn't have had a problem.
One way around this for Michigan is also to enact legislation that all new applicants for welfare must submit to testing. Those refusing to submit can be denied benefits.
