you guys are assuming that the democrats misjudged the publics outrage at the bill. i think they knew that the public would be outraged, but they also felt that outrage would dissipate over time. and i believe that they never intended to run on the health care law, but rather against the republicans.

In its current incarnation, probably not. The problem is structural and ingrained, it'll take decades to "fix". However - the law's requirement that insurers must spend 80% of premium income on reimbursements (85% on large group plans) or provide rebates to their insured - well, that's a step in the right direction. (Out of curiosity, I tried to find that percentage for my insurance carrier. I challenge everyone to do the same. It's like extracting nuclear launch codes.)

Not only will obamacare NOT fix the problems, like we were led to believe by obama and his supporters, it will exacerbate the problems.

A similar thing can be said for Public education. Again, the highest cost per pupil due to administrative overhead - and with dismal results.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.
Government, designed to secure rights and govern by consent, is inept when it comes to anything else... thanks to partisan politics. Or perhaps this clumsiness is by design, to create an even greater problem and justify asking for "more, please".

After three generations of socialism (yes, socialism, via FICA), there is a huge recipient class, who wields such power as to balk any attempt at correction.

It will not end well.

The absolute worst thing to come from this, is that all the right wing talking heads not only get to sit back and enjoy a free ride this election cycle, but they get to work all the Democrats, running against their own initiatives. A local talk-show host here in Denver always reminds his audience to never ever forget just how adept the Republicans are at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. In the race for Governor, we've already eliminated the perceived strongest candidate, he was proven a plagiarist. Now were down to a fired cop who lied about his employment history and Tom Tancredo, to run against the mayor of Denver (John Hickenlooper).

Seeing that 43% oppose and 45% approve (USA Today), I don't see how you can claim the bill is overwhelmingly unpopular. If this plan improves the situation even a little bit, the Republicans are going to have quite a bit of egg on their face.

They didn't get it wrong - they just didn't care what the voters and the polls were saying. Let's not forget that the unknown Republican in Massachusetts ran an entire campaign on one issue - the blocking vote for ObamaCare. Scott Brown won the Kennedy Senate seat in a state that is one of the most Liberal in the USA just on blocking a health care vote.

How could anyone miss that? When the Dems lose Massachusetts on an issue, they have no chance at all with the American public.

They just didn't care.

I want to know why it is that everyone thinks that the insurance companies are worth keeping? They didn't get the smack down that they needed. In fact, they will profit from this. Every media conglemerate has people on the board that also sit or formerly sat on the board of a hospital, insurance company or medical something. So the spin on this being a communist deal was just way out there.

It pisses me off. These bastards are still in there. Because for some reason, insurance companies represent capitalism at its finest.

I have watched a hospital refuse to give someone a heart surgery for someone that didn't have insurance. I have watched two hospitals refuse to deal or rather, treat and release for any damn reason a kid that has seizures. I think to myself, my god, could you exploit medical care anymore? But hell no, because health care is not a right. We have mental health facilities that treat and release. So, the homicidal/psychotic kids go in and are heavily medicated and tossed ou the door because "that is the way they are". A heart pace maker costs over 80K? Health care reform doesn't stifle creativity or competition for quality care. The only thing that was supposed to be stifled was the ability to creatively or competively scam the people.

But, can't have that now.

The benefits of the new HC Law won't be realized for several years. The Repubs were free to lie and misrepresent. Basically, they can say anything until the reality proves the assertions wrong. Pretty much like the Bush tax cuts. It took about 10 years for them to be proven very detrimental. The new Health Care Law, will very likely prove very beneficial. But it will take time.
