You're talking about constituency, but I'm going to answer the question of whats the difference between the 'tea party' and the 'republican party'. The tea party isn't a bona fide party with intentions of having a representative for a unique approach towards governance. It's intentions are to disrupt a system they're unhappy with but have no constructive alternative plan to offer, and so they are led around playing blame game endlessly. Not a single member (at their blog site or in this forum or in any coverage I've lent my ear to YTD) has any clue about how their government works, or has a semblance of understanding how economics works. I base this assessment not on statements from media or OPED, but from the very statements/ posters of tea party members.
The republican party is a bona fide party. They're familiar with the system as it is and have clear definitions/ knowledge of what governments responsibility is and what is/ isn't in it's capacity to deliver. This would be why the fans of social conservativism will forever be disappointed by any party they elect, no matter how they stomp. What they're asking for, their expectations, cannot be delivered in a nation with a constitution. They'd need to move to Iran where morality is thoroughly legislated by a mullah, secular law comes second.
