The politicians are just the mouth pieces who the oligarchs throw up in front of us - making us think it matters is the illusion... The real power to change things is with The Fed and no matter who you vote in, they will protect the wealthy at all costs. They'd rather completely debase and/or hyperinflate our currency into oblivion then risk the truth get out.
They're laughing at all of us debating silly things like who we vote for... It's the perfect distraction of the 2 party system. We're such suckers.
Assuming that there was a renaissance of common sense and statesmanship - how could a new government deal with the following?

The public debt is impossible to repay. By law, it cannot be questioned.
Our petroleum imports are 75% of our consumption. This is unsustainable.
The meddling of government has bloated administrative costs, while degrading performance so that the USA has stats like a third world country.
The tax on producers and the subsidy for consumers has turned the nation upside down. The recipient class wields far too much power, and will drag down the nation.
There is no right to healthcare because of criminalization of unlicensed health care.
1. Since the government, itself, cannot question the impossible debt (14th amendment, clause 4), the people would have to do so. Which may require a repeal of the 14th amendment. Or a withdrawal of consent, leaving the banking system, etc.
2. A national initiative to transition to electric traction rail would do it. But not with government funding. 100% tax exemption to all companies and employees exclusively involved in building, manufacturing, operating and repairing electric traction rail should suffice.
3. Abolish the Department of Education, and all Federal funding of public education. And perhaps, abolishing local funding as well - the only sure way to end bloated costs for power blocs.
4. Eliminate all taxes on producers (income or excise taxes), and shrink the size of government to its original limited purpose - secure rights and govern those who consent. Furthermore, any recipient of public funds cannot vote for at least 2 years. That will prevent a conflict of interest.
5. Decriminalize health care. End the monopoly. Let free enterprise resolve the scarcity and high costs associated with buying and selling health care.
Solutions such as the above have not been considered nor offered by any candidate. Which leads one to conclude that nothing substantive will come of the elections in November and the following two years, 2011 and 2012.
How quickly will America decline is not known. But that America shall collapse is a given. An ever rising impossible to repay public debt, and its "debt service" (interest fees) means ever higher taxes with less going to the people. The insane subsidy of automobiles (gas or electric), while foot dragging on rail projects belie a complete disconnect between the Law of Physics and the Laws of Imbeciles. Of course, reviewing the dismal performance of American schools explains the latter. And the bloated recipient class (including public workers and unions) have effectively strangled any opposition that would prevent collapse. And thanks to the government, scarcity, rationing, and high costs are endemic to the privilege of buying and selling health care.
The way I have it figured, the Dems will keep control of the house and senate come November. Then, over the next two years we can watch the rest of the republican party continue to implode while the Tea Party picks each other off, one by one. We may not even need an election come 2012.
What you say here is exactly what I have been afraid of since 2008. If the Dems maintain control of both houses I really fear that we won't get to vote in 2012 and not because we don't need an election. I fear that they will accede to the desires of the Chicago bunch and attempt to make Obama President for Life.
Actually just as much attention needs to be paid to state races as the congressional races. The 2010 Census will come out sometime after the next election. Whoever is control at the state legislature level gets to redraw the congressional districts in their respective states. That will have an impact on congressional races in the future.

Let's not forget the recent Supreme Court ruling on corporate donations in politics. That would mean that soon politicians go on sale, the sale ends on election day. Be prepared for more negative campaign ads than ever before.
Probably not but I like to hope it will. I am fooling myself I know but who wants their country to fall apart? Hell we might end up with something worse if it does fall apart.
I will predict that no matter who wins in the November elections, nothing will change that would improve America's chances of avoiding utter collapse.

The irony is that there is no solution forthcoming from the government, save that government gets out of the way. And that cannot happen via the ballot box. For the act of voting gives power of attorney and binds the voter to obey.
Remember, governments are instituted among men to secure rights and govern by consent (Declaration of Independence). However, few realize that consent waives the first job.
The only viable tactic is to withdraw consent. And few Americans have the knowledge and temerity to do so.
Your poll is incomplete...
You are stating a fact that our economy is declining and saying either... "yes" the Republicans will save us or "no" it's too late. You should have asked, Will the elections will bring any real change "yes or no."
I'm not even going to vote in your poll or read what you wrote because the question you asked is way to biased.
