It is always interesting to me what might be running through some guy's head when he decides to write a column like this. I wonder why he would say for instance, that the new Democratic Congress is looking "eerily puritanical" when wasn't it John ******** that had that statue's boobs covered up so nobody would be offended? Democrats are trying to level the playing field for liberal talk (which I don't necessarily agree with) and THAT is puritanical?
He then goes on to say that because Democrats and many conservatives around the country disagree with people who spout hate speech like DON IMUS and Anne COULTER - we're the bad guys because it might damage the careers of people who make a living off of trying to destroy other people...
I would read more, but I"m only 3 paragraphs in and I haven't found a kernal of truth yet. Could you find a source that I've A) heard of and B) makes valid points?

I disagree, Toninole. "American liberalism" isn't even true liberalism anymore. Look, I am a real liberal and there is much truth in this article. Well, at least until he starts talking about creation/evolution. Then he goes off on some incoherent rant, which is really sad because it was a decent article up to that point. The Democratic party is a joke, just as much of a joke as the Republican party.
The Fairness Doctrine is a horrible idea. Perhaps the reason "liberal talk radio" fails is because it's not actually liberal. Regardless, this is not something the government should be doing, period. The only step that should be taken to insure fairness in the media is to limit ownership. Media moguls like Rupert Murdoch should not exist. He has too much influence. We need ownership proliferation. That is the ONLY action I would support.
Damn liberals !
Attacking smaller countries, unprovoked...
Dismantling the Constitution...
Taking citizens land for corporations...
Spying on thier own citizens.....
Censoring the media....
Using bizarre, fanatical religious zealotism to determine policy.....
Is there any other type of liberalism that is not Facist-like?
Most liberals wnat to restrict freedom of speech (like the Ultra-Liberal Senators Fienstein and Boxer, who want the "Fairness Doctrine back to silence Talk Radio) or the liberals McCain and Feingold who passed the "incombent protection law" which create criminal penalties for ANYONE who says ANYTHING AGAINST an incombent before an election....
I bet no one knew this... did you know Adolf Hitler was actually a SOCIALIST???
Yes, Hitler was a member of the National Socialist German Workers Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei abbreviated NSDAP or simply Nazi Party.
Yeah... Socialism has done soooooo much good for our world in the 20th Century!
Nirvana-Guy, educate yourself. Most of the ideals this country was founded upon were very liberal, at the time. The US is still a pretty liberal country, in a political sense, compared to most other nations. Your post puts me in the camp with your "enemies". It's divisive (just like our President). Is that what you really want, considering that we likely agree on far more than we disagree?
