As said in the article "level of education was the best predictor of religious knowledge". In logical continuance, a good portion of the very faithful are not well educated compared to those who question.
Probably because atheists tend to study their enemies before they kill them

Didn't know there was other threads, but considering all the factors above the religious right has become a political voice in the US.
Eliminate the tax-free status.

if you want to have some real fun with catholics, tell them that martin luther wrote the catacysim after he was excommunicated from the catholic church, and the catholics eventually adopted it.

martin luther tried to initiate a catholic reform, but was eventually excommunicated by the church. he went on to form his own protestant church, which inspired others to form protestant churches. however the protestant denomination was already moving along nicely, just that martin luther was like adding a supercharger to an already strong race engine.

Why is this in politics?

There is no American religion... where do you think this is? Iran?
Because America is a re-active country. We tend to to react all the way to one side. We seem to be able to discuss ethnicity in our school system. But due to separation of church and state our secular school system teaches nothing. Not even an interfaith class to discuss all religions. so we are left with private schools or religion schools that occur after secular school lets out. Even at the university/college level there are few interfaith classes. But teaching our kids 12 years of war is much better according to the American system of education.

Well, that's the problem. If they could just run the entire program on pictures and symbols and rituals like back in the old days....

Some huge proportion of Churchianity-Volk think Catholics aren't Christian. They must have been explicitly taught this.

People expressing that they have a religion, in no way means they actually have one.

No, Atheists come to their belief as a result of conscious thought.
